Mr. Thoai said that at first he only raised two pairs of common birds for entertainment. Later, when he saw that the birds had economic value, he started raising them for business, with 20 breeding pairs.
By 2020, Mr. Thoai switched to raising the Dutch budgie breed, which has many advantages over the normal breed, such as the birds having a variety of colors, larger size, and being able to breed more exotic colors. In particular, in terms of economics, the value is many times higher than the normal breed.
Mr. Thoai shared that at first, due to lack of experience, the swallows often suffered from runny nose and diarrhea, leading to death, and the number of swallows was greatly reduced. Not giving up, he raised them while gaining experience, regularly searching for information on social networks and directly learning from other farm owners. Thanks to that, he has experience in raising swallows, and now he can handle common swallow diseases himself, and the swallows reproduce and develop well.

With a total cage area of 50 square meters, Mr. Thoai raises more than 200 swallows, of which about 150 are breeding. Every month, he has 80-100 baby swallows for sale. Traders come to his house to buy them at a price of 120,000-140,000 VND/bird.
Each pair of adult birds costs from 400,000 VND or more. The price of budgies is not fixed, depending on the color and size of the bird, the price will be different. The average monthly profit is from 7-8 million VND, sometimes he earns 15-20 million VND/month.
According to Mr. Thoai, the swallow is a fairly easy species to raise, requiring little time to care for; the bird breeds all year round, with each clutch of 4-8 eggs, so the economic return is quite stable.

During the time the bird lays eggs and raises the chicks, it is necessary to pay attention to providing enough seeds and green vegetables for the parent birds to raise the chicks better. Regularly monitor the parent birds because they often bite the chicks and the nest must be cleaned. After about 2 months, the chicks can eat, separate them from the parent birds and raise them in a separate cage for easier care.
In addition, to raise swallows effectively, in terms of technical aspects, it is necessary to protect the birds from wind and rain, and in the cold season, they should be covered carefully at night. Provide adequate food, regularly clean the cage, the droppings tray and clean the nests of baby birds.
With the economic efficiency it brings, Mr. Thoai said he will continue to maintain the model of raising swallows, planning to expand the scale of farming in the near future.
In addition, Mr. Thoai also raises Malayan parrots and green-cheeked parrots and is willing to share his experience with young people who have the same passion as him.
