According to trends.levif.be, Stockton Rush was the pilot of the Titan submersible that took four explorers from a large ship to explore the Titanic wreck, which has lain at the bottom of the ocean at a depth of 4000 meters for 111 years, on June 18th. The expedition was expected to last 8 to 10 hours. However, Stockton Rush and the four explorers did not return after the accident, and their bodies were found near the Titanic wreck.

So who is Stockton Rush?

According to trends.levif.be, Stockton Rush, the grandson of an oil tycoon, became a private investor while working in the aviation industry. He earned his pilot's license at the age of 19. Initially, the CEO of OceanGate wanted to become an astronaut or fighter pilot, but due to poor eyesight, he had to give up his dream. "I really wanted to be a space explorer. But growing up, I realized that all the animals discovered in the solar system are probably in the ocean," CEO Stockton Rush once shared with the press.

Stockton Rush founded OceanGate in 2009 with the hope of advancing further in the field of underwater exploration, particularly organizing expeditions around the Titanic wreck. In reality, expeditions to the Titanic began much later than planned because OceanGate had not yet obtained the necessary permits for its submersibles.

According to capital.fr, OceanGate first built the Cyclops 1 submersible, capable of carrying five people and reaching a depth of 500 meters. After working with NASA engineers, the company developed the Titan submersible. This carbon fiber submersible is 7 meters long, weighs over 10 tons, and can dive to a depth of 4,000 meters with an operating time of 96 hours. The Titan submersible has been conducting expeditions since 2021.

Over time, OceanGate has become a leading provider of manned submersibles, proving highly useful for scientific research. The company ensures "in-depth and ongoing research to examine the ocean floor and shipwrecks."

Meanwhile, Stockton Rush is described as a reckless adventurer. “You know, at some point, safety is just a mess. I mean, if you just want to be safe, don’t get out of bed. Don’t get in your car. Don’t do anything. At some point, you’re going to take risks, it’s really a risk or a reward for yourself. I think, I can do it safely by breaking the rules,” Stockton Rush shared in an interview with CBS News.
