According to trends.levif.be, Mr. Stockton Rush was the pilot of the Titan submersible that took four explorers off the large ship to explore the Titanic wreck that had been lying on the ocean floor at a depth of 4,000 m for 111 years on June 18. The expedition was expected to last from 8 to 10 hours. However, the pilot Stockton Rush and the four explorers did not return after the accident, which was determined to be near the location of the Titanic wreck.

So who is Stockton Rush?

According to trends.levif.be, the grandson of an oil tycoon, Stockton Rush became a private investor while working in the aviation industry. He earned his pilot's license at the age of 19. Initially, the CEO of OceanGate wanted to become an astronaut or a fighter pilot, but due to poor eyesight, he had to give up his dream. "I really wanted to be a space explorer. But as I grew older, I realized that all the animals discovered in the solar system were probably in the ocean," CEO Stockton Rush once shared with the press.

Mr. Stockton Rush founded OceanGate in 2009 with the hope of furthering the underwater exploration field, especially organizing expeditions around the Titanic wreck. In fact, the expeditions to the Titanic started much later than expected because OceanGate had not yet obtained the necessary permits for its submersibles.

Capital.fr reports that OceanGate first built the Cyclops 1 submersible, which can carry five people and reach depths of 500 meters. After working with NASA engineers, the company developed the Titan submersible. This is a carbon fiber submersible, 7 meters long, weighing more than 10 tons and capable of diving to depths of 4,000 meters, operating for 96 hours. The Titan submersible has been on expeditions since 2021.

Over time, OceanGate has become “a leading provider of manned submersibles,” which are useful for scientific research. The company guarantees “intensive and ongoing research to examine the ocean floor and shipwrecks.”

Meanwhile, Stockton Rush is described as a daredevil adventurer. “You know, at some point, safety is just a mess. I mean, if you just want to be safe, don't get out of bed. Don't get in your car. Don't do anything. At some point, you have to take a risk, which is really risk or reward for yourself. I thought, I can do it safely by breaking the rules,” Stockton Rush shared in an interview with CBS News.
