Ms. Truong Thi Thuy Kieu and her students during the 2022-2023 school year.
As a homeroom teacher at the primary school level, Ms. Kieu's job is different from that of teachers at other levels. Directly teaching subjects, organizing and guiding all educational activities, and being with students most of the time at school, Ms. Kieu is like a "second mother" to the children. With this responsibility, she always strives to implement many effective educational methods for her class. In the 2022-2023 school year, Ms. Kieu applied the method: "Building a happy classroom through homeroom teaching" to help students and teachers feel happier when coming to class.
Ms. Kieu shared: “By implementing this method, I was able to overcome difficulties in my role as a homeroom teacher, gain a deeper understanding of the value of happiness, and thus build happy lessons and a happy classroom. Thanks to the successful creation of a happy classroom, the relationship between teacher and students has become closer and friendlier. As a result, students respect, trust, and love their teacher; the teacher understands and empathizes with the students' difficulties, and therefore loves and dedicates herself wholeheartedly to them.”
Ms. Kieu also focuses on innovating teaching methods. She always strives to create a close and intimate relationship with the students, speaking softly and gently, so that they don't feel intimidated when standing in front of the teacher; at the same time, she creates a friendly learning environment with a comfortable classroom space, close to nature, helping students to experience, cooperate, interact, and share with each other.
"To positively influence my students' legitimate desires, I placed a mailbox called 'What I Want to Say' right in the classroom so they could send loving messages, even suggestions, requests for changes to my teaching, or exchange ideas about the lesson... From there, I understand them better," shared Ms. Thuy Kieu.
Furthermore, Ms. Kieu also focuses on educating students in ethics and life skills through extracurricular activities and integrating them into various subjects. Ms. Thuy Kieu stated: “To educate students about environmental protection, I organize themed drawing competitions; and to instill gratitude in them through making greeting cards for teachers on November 20th, an event organized by the school. In addition, I emphasize educating students to have a good sense of law compliance, developing life skills such as having rules and responsibilities towards themselves, their families, and society; and actively participating in the 'Thousand Good Deeds' movement… From this, students are nurtured and become more mature.”
Thanks to her approachable, friendly demeanor and effective teaching methods, the students in Ms. Thuy Kieu's class have made significant progress throughout the school year. She has also earned the affection of many students. In particular, her efforts have been recognized with numerous achievements, most notably first prize in the Provincial-level Excellent Homeroom Teacher Competition for primary schools in the 2022-2023 school year.
