Vietnamese people compete to search for 'province-city merger' and 'national concert'

In the second quarter, Vietnamese users were interested in prominent social events, alongside the explosion of new slang words on the Internet.

Coc Coc's search query data shows that Vietnamese users are interested in many different current topics, characters and events in the second quarter, such as "new administrative map", "counterfeit goods", "province-city merger" or "re-issuing CCCD".

The popular keywords in the second quarter show multidimensional movements in Internet users' interests, reflecting a mix of key current issues, everyday worries, new technology waves, and cultural and linguistic trends that are strongly marked by "Gen Z".

Entertainment remained the most popular topic in the second quarter, with searches up 3% from the previous quarter, followed by technology andeducation . Travel saw an 8% decline, reflecting a slight adjustment in interest during the low season.

National events, popular news searches

In the second quarter, users paid great attention to the merger of provinces and cities. After the National Assembly passed Resolution 202/2025/QH15 and Conclusion 127-KL/TW, the arrangement of 34 provincial-level administrative units became the focus of discussion nationwide.

According to data, the number of searches for keywords related to “province-city merger” in the second quarter increased by 100%, while the keyword “new administrative map” increased by 172%. This shows that people are proactive in regularly updating information and looking up new administrative boundaries according to regulations.

The second quarter also welcomed the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day. Searches for the keywords “parade/parade” increased by 4,059%.

The phrase “National Concert” was created by the young community to describe the parade and spread on social media, reflecting a more modern, closer and proactive approach to history.

In addition, the Victory Day parade taking place on May 9 in Russia also attracted the attention of Vietnamese users, with the number of searches increasing by 14,031%.

The data also recorded an increase in searches for domestic airport projects. Specifically, “Long Thanh International Airport/Phu Quoc Airport” recorded a 122% increase. At the same time, “Tan Son Nhat Terminal 3” exploded in searches after officially opening on April 19.

Recently, users have also been concerned about counterfeit goods and false advertising. The number of searches for keywords related to “counterfeit goods” (fake medicine, fake milk, vegetable candy, cigarette butts…) has increased by 560%.

New keywords such as “Wutip storm” and “Myanmar earthquake” also recorded high search volume, showing interest in natural disasters that have the potential to directly or indirectly affect Vietnam.

International events also attracted a lot of attention in the second quarter, such as Donald Trump's "countervailing tax bill.

Highlights of the second quarter

The second quarter also saw increased interest in celebrity controversies. Not only the story behind the scandal, but also how celebrities responded and handled the crisis. Searches related to controversial KOLs and artists in the second quarter increased by 20-662% depending on the character.

The scandal surrounding the production and advertising of Kera vegetable candy continues to be in the top search results in the second quarter. According to the assessment, users today are not only interested in product quality but also closely follow the level of transparency, honesty and compliance with the law of influential individuals.

Users also showed interest in young, prominent figures in the sports field. Some notable keywords include “Lamine Yamal” (searches increased by 129%), “Sinner” (140%), “Alcaraz” (151%), “Florian Writz” (450%) and “An Se Young” (42%).

In the second quarter, Song Ji Yoon with her YouTube channel “Potato Turtle” attracted the attention of the online community. The vlog recorded Song’s solo travel journey in India with everyday, authentic and emotional experiences that attracted the attention of the audience.

Some of the most searched domestic figures in the second quarter included “Le Hoang Hiep”, “Doan Di Bang”, “Chi Phien/Khuyen Duong” or “Phuong My Chi”, while the international keyword group included “Ronaldo”, “Putin”, “Donald Trump”, “G Dragon” or “Messi”.

AI tools and iPhone 17 attract great interest

Popular tech keywords in the second quarter mainly revolved around AI, with “Grok 3” and “Gemini AI” seeing increases of 238% and 67% respectively in search volume.

Specialized AI tools like “Leonardo AI”, “Pixverse AI”, “Remaker AI” and “Veo 3” are highly sought after for their video creation, face-changing and personalized model training capabilities. This shows that users are expecting more from AI for practical applications than just simple dialogue.

The ChatGPT outage also generated a strong reaction. The search term “ChatGPT down/ChatGPT error” saw a 133% increase. This also shows the great dependence and interest in AI in digital life.

At the same time, the keyword “Telegram is banned in Vietnam” recorded a spike of 810%. This led to a wave of searches for alternative platforms, such as “Lotus” with a 109% increase.

In the second quarter, popular search keywords related to technology products included “iPhone 17/iPhone 17 Air”, “OnePlus 13T”, “Nubia Neo 3”, “Huawei Watch Fit 4” and “Redmi Note 14”, while popular technology software included “Scratch”, “Google Map”, “Grok 3”, “Veo 3”, “Leonardo AI” and “Gemini AI”.

Favorite TV series and entertainment shows

Internet slang is also a popular search trend. Originating from the April 30th parade, the phrases “vacation block” and “retirement block” suddenly spread widely on social networks. These are two of the prominent slang words of the quarter, recording a growth of 13,315% on the Coc Coc search engine.

Specifically, the structure “block…” originated from the phrases “parade block”, “honorary vehicle block”, “officer block” used in the parade. After this event, the word “block” was used by young people in daily life to create variations with humorous and rich imagery.

Other popular slang words in the second quarter include “brainrot”, “we just do it hehe hehe”, “love market”, “wild opening” and “shut up gobi”.

In the entertainment industry, search trends in the second quarter show that audiences are shifting towards works that exploit psychological depth and humanistic content from television dramas to movies.

TV series such as “Weak Hero Class 2”, “Hunchback”, “Lam Giang Tien” or reality show “Haha Family” saw a surge in searches.

Some Vietnamese TV series such as “My Father, the One Who Stays”, “Mother of the Sea” and “Rainbow on the Horizon” recorded search increases of 262%, 17,076% and 8,713% respectively.

In the film industry, Vietnamese works such as “Detective Kien”, “Tunnel” and “Flip Side 8” all received attention thanks to their content that combines history, psychology and family values. Some TV shows also attracted attention such as “Em xinh say hi” (up 788%) and “Tan rung toan nang” (up 794%).

Increased searches for tax policy, international football

The second quarter also saw an increase in searches related to new tax policies and financial regulations. Keywords such as “new tax regulations/tax collection” saw a 44% increase in searches, while “value-added tax reduction” increased by 82% compared to the previous quarter. In particular, the keyword “e-commerce platform that pays taxes on behalf of sellers” also increased by 41% in searches.

Users are also interested in new regulations on cash spending as the keyword “regulations on cash spending under 5 million deductible for VAT” increased by 764%. This is a sign that legal awareness and the need for financial transparency are increasing in the digital space.

In the sports sector, the keyword “VPL S6” (a domestic football tournament) attracted great interest in the second quarter. In international sports, the final stage of the 2024/25 football season recorded a sudden growth in major tournaments such as “C2 final” (up 90,440%), “UEFA Nations League” (6,602%) and “Asian Cup qualifiers” (5,817%).

In the second quarter, the enrollment season entered its peak period. The keyword “register for the 2025 high school graduation exam” recorded a 152,520% increase in searches. Immediately after the exam, searches related to “2025 high school graduation exam questions” quickly exploded.

Keywords related to the 10th grade entrance exam also increased sharply, such as "look up 10th grade entrance exam scores" (increased by 6,399%) and "illustrative essay questions for the 10th grade entrance exam of the new program" (increased by 3,626%).

In the vehicle category, some popular keywords include “limo green”, “cx5 2025”, “vento neo” or “ducati superleggera v4”, while in the tourism category there are “Cu Chi tunnels”, “Phan Rang city”, “Cat Ba”, “Sri Lanka”, “Australia” or “Bali”.
