A landslide on the slope down to bridge number 2 causes traffic safety problems.
Although the Bu Nho - Phuoc Tan route does not have as many people and vehicles as the provincial routes, most of those who pass through it agree that this route has some shortcomings. Specifically, on both sides of the road are cashew and rubber plantations of the people, many sections of the plantations are higher than the road surface, especially the slope down to bridge number 2, in the direction of Bu Nho - Phuoc Tan, there are some plantations up to 6m high, making the road surface as deep as a valley. The most dangerous thing is that the soil walls on both sides are not designed with inclined slopes, or steps, but are vertical, causing a high risk of landslides.
Mr. Duong Van Cong in Binh Hieu village, Binh Tan commune, Phu Rieng district, who often goes to work in the fields in this area, said: “Every time I pass by bridge number 2, I feel afraid that the landslide will hit me. Therefore, when I reach this section, I often drive my motorbike quickly. I find the steep cliffs very dangerous. This situation has existed for more than 4 years, every year there is a landslide and it is getting more and more dangerous.”
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vu in Dong Thap village, Phuoc Tan commune, who goes to work every day through this road, said: "Recently, some heavy rains have caused the soil on both sides of the wall to collapse onto the road. The total area of the landslide is about 10 square meters. The landslide is about 100 meters from bridge number 2. On the wall, the soil is still clearly soaked with water and has cracks. If there is heavy rain, there is a high risk of it collapsing onto the road."
Ms. Tran Thi Nhung in Phuoc An village, Binh Tan commune, has a rubber plantation adjacent to a curved road with no railings. She shared: “This road has many curved sections that obstruct visibility. Vehicles moving in the opposite direction, if the driver is subjective, drives fast, and lacks concentration, can easily cause collisions. I recommend that the authorities and functional agencies of Phu Rieng district take measures to promptly remedy and repair the situation.”
Mr. Vu Manh Hung, Chairman of Phuoc Tan Commune People's Committee, said: "Recently, the commune has received many comments from voters about the shortcomings on the Bu Nho - Phuoc Tan road. In fact, during heavy rains and landslides, the commune has mobilized businesses to use machinery to clear the road so that vehicles can move smoothly. The commune People's Committee has sent a petition to the district's functional agencies to take measures to handle the situation, avoid landslides and ensure traffic safety. However, so far there have been no results."
Many sections of the road do not have railings or barriers, posing potential traffic safety risks.
Speaking to reporters, a representative of the Economic and Infrastructure Department of Phu Rieng district said that the Bu Nho - Phuoc Tan road project is a newly opened road, passing through the entire cultivated land area of the people. Due to the lack of allocated capital for compensation and site clearance, the project completely mobilized people to donate land. The site clearance construction process happened right at the time when people were in the harvest season, so the mobilization work encountered difficulties, affecting the design of the slope or lowering the height of the field surface compared to the roadbed. Funding sources are also limited, so traffic safety measures such as guardrail systems, drainage ditches, etc. have not been implemented.
It is currently the rainy season, many locations on the road continue to be at risk of landslides, and dangers still lurk at curves without barriers. Hopefully, the above shortcomings will soon be addressed by Phu Rieng district, avoiding unfortunate accidents that may occur.
