The Asia Artist Festival 2025 (AAF) took place in Singapore, attracting more than 2,600 contestants from more than 20 countries and territories, including Russia, Germany, Scotland, New Zealand...
Participating in an international music competition for the first time, Nguyen Thanh Chuc from (Chuong My) Hanoi surpassed many contestants to win the Gold Cup in the classical vocal category.

At the Festival, the 20-year-old Vietnamese girl chose to perform the aria Le violette from the opera Pirro e Demetrio by Alessandro Scarlatti - a Baroque-style work that requires high vocal technique.
“The song has a fast tempo, and the high notes at the end are especially difficult to handle. I had to practice a lot, and sometimes even cried because I couldn’t achieve what I wanted,” Thanh Chuc said.
The pressure from the work and her own expectations made the young girl doubt her abilities many times. But thanks to the encouragement from her teachers and family, Thanh Chuc stepped onto the stage with a steady mind.
Her performance convinced the judges and achieved the highest achievement in the classical vocal category at the 2025 Asian Arts Festival.
For Nguyen Thanh Chuc, the award is not only a personal achievement, but also a tribute to the teacher who has accompanied her since the first days of her introduction to professional music.
“The gold cup is a gift I want to give to my teacher and family, who have always supported and believed in me unconditionally,” Thanh Chuc expressed.
Under the direct guidance of Mr. Nguyen Vu, she passed the entrance exam to the Vocal Department of the Vietnam National Academy of Music. She is currently a third-year intermediate student.

According to Nguyen Thanh Chuc, she was born into a family where no one was in the arts. Her love of music came to her quite early, as a natural part of her childhood.
Although she did not have a professional background, thanks to the encouragement of her grandparents, parents, siblings and especially her uncle, she often participated in village performances from a very young age.
The turning point came in 12th grade, when Thanh Chuc met lecturer Dang Hong Nhung, who connected the young girl with the opportunity to study with Mr. Dao Nguyen Vu, a singer and vocal lecturer at the Vietnam National Academy of Music.
The 20-year-old girl is currently pursuing opera, an academic genre that is selective of listeners and requires long-term practice. In addition to opera, Thanh Chuc was also guided by her teacher to pursue chamber folk music - a genre rich in identity and artistic depth.
Lecturer and singer Dao Nguyen Vu commented on his student: “I always believe that artists must first have a sensitive soul and patience. In Thanh Chuc, I see both of those things. What impressed me most is not only her beautiful voice, but also her progressive spirit, serious learning attitude and respect for art.”
According to singer Nguyen Vu, right from the beginning of his studies, Chuc showed diligence and was not afraid of challenges. “Thanh Chuc is willing to practice to the point of exhaustion just to do a musical phrase well, to handle a nuance correctly. That is the most valuable spirit of a young artist who is growing up,” he added.

After winning the first award at the 2025 Asian Arts Festival, Nguyen Thanh Chuc will continue to nurture his passion for opera (Photo: Character provided).
Singer Nguyen Vu believes that the award at the 2025 Asian Arts Festival is a worthy reward for his tireless efforts, and at the same time the first milestone for Nguyen Thanh Chuc to take further steps on the artistic path.
After the contest, she plans to continue focusing on her studies, while actively participating in professional competitions at home and abroad to gain experience. She also plans to release music products with her own personal stamp.
