Entering the race, Nguyen Thi Oanh was the name that received the most attention. Not only because of her impressive record in previous SEA Games, but also because of her ability to control her pace and her competitive spirit, which have become her trademark. As expected, the runner from Bac Giang quickly took control of the race.
Similar to the 5,000m race, the Vietnamese women's athletics team was unopposed. Le Thi Tuyet led for most of the time, but Nguyen Thi Oanh proved her class by surging ahead in the final lap and overtaking her younger competitor to win the gold medal with a time of 34 minutes 27 seconds 93. This was her second victory in the 10,000m race after the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia.
This victory is clear evidence of Nguyen Thi Oanh's perseverance, willpower, and superior class in long-distance events. This is another successful SEA Games for her, extending her impressive record in regional competitions.
The gold medal significantly contributed to Vietnam's overall athletics achievements at the 33rd SEA Games, while also solidifying Nguyen Thi Oanh's position as the number one athlete in Southeast Asia in middle and long-distance events. In the context of increasingly fierce competition in regional athletics, her consistency and desire to win remain a strong foundation for the Vietnamese team.
With her consistent performance, Nguyen Thi Oanh is expected to sweep the remaining gold medal in the 3,000m steeplechase at this year's SEA Games.
