The Vietnamese people always cherish and remember the affection and support that the Chilean people have given to Vietnam. Established in 1965, the Chile-Vietnam Friendship Cultural Institute called on and gathered the Chilean people to unite with Vietnam. Thousands of Chilean students marched 200km to express solidarity with the Vietnamese people against the invasion.
The fine traditional friendship is a solid foundation for the strong development of solidarity, friendship and trustworthy cooperation between Vietnam and Chile over the past half century, especially since the two countries established a comprehensive partnership in 2007.

On behalf of the Government and people of Vietnam, Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc emphasized that exactly 52 years ago, on March 25, 1971, Vietnam and Chile officially announced the establishment of diplomatic relations, opening a new chapter for the relationship between the two countries.
Over the past 52 years, the two sides have achieved many important results in cooperation such as establishing a Comprehensive Partnership (in 2007); signing a bilateral Free Trade Agreement (in 2011); establishing many cooperation mechanisms; jointly joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (in 2018)...; organizing many high-level delegations to visit each other on the basis of trust and determination to deepen the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
Currently, bilateral trade continues to develop positively: In 2022, it reached 2.15 billion USD, an increase of 9% compared to 2021; cooperation agreements and arrangements in many fields have been effectively implemented, deepening and diversifying bilateral relations. The two sides continue to closely coordinate and support each other at international organizations and multilateral forums, supporting each other to cope with the pandemic, demonstrating the solidarity and friendship between the people of the two countries.
Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc also expressed his belief in the bright future of Vietnam-Chile relations in the next half century and beyond. Especially in the coming time, when Chilean President Gabriel Boric visits Vietnam, it will be a good opportunity for the two countries to join hands to write new pages in the history of bilateral relations.

Speaking at the ceremony, former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet expressed her honor to return to Vietnam at a moment of great significance for the two countries. Ms. Michelle Bachelet said that in 1965, the Chile-Vietnam Friendship Cultural Institute was established by Chilean youth who had a great love for Vietnam.
“At that time, we admired the courage of the Vietnamese people, a small country that dared to confront the world's great powers. We marched through the streets and shouted: 1,2,3 Vietnam to show solidarity, support, and arouse spiritual strength for the struggle of the Vietnamese people,” Michelle Bachelet emotionally recalled.
The cooperation between the two countries is increasingly being promoted in many areas and there is still much room for development. Ms. Michelle Bachelet expressed her wish and hope that the relationship between Vietnam and Chile will develop not only at the Government and National Assembly levels but also with localities and people of the two countries.
