Producer of "Happy Doctor" upset when the movie is shown illegally

It is known that the film was shown all 20 episodes at once on the Netflix platform. However, on the two free online platforms, Danet and YouTube channel, the film only shows 2 episodes a week (at 7pm on Friday and Saturday).

But with pirated movie sites arbitrarily taking and showing movies, it has created an unhealthy environment that causes both physical and mental harm to those involved in the movie.

"This is a movie that is famous in many parts of the world , so buying back the copyright of the movie project is not a small amount, it took us billions of dong to negotiate to buy it.

Not only that, the production cost of the film is much higher than other films because this is a film about the medical industry, so it takes a lot of time to prepare and produce. Besides, this also causes consequences, affecting the quality and reputation of reputable online platforms today...

Through this, BHD, filmmakers and actors have also spoken out to condemn the distribution of pirated films. We also hope that competent authorities will intervene to investigate and handle websites that distribute films," said a representative of the production company of the film "Happy Doctor".

"Good Doctor" is a top-selling series and has been re-produced by many TV stations around the world, such as Japan, China, Türkiye and the US. In the US, the series has been produced up to its 6th season thanks to the enthusiastic support and reception of the audience.

The film was copyrighted by BHD, and premiered on Netflix, Danet and Film Box channels on May 18.

The film is a story about the journey of overcoming doubts and prejudices from society to become a doctor of a young man with autism, Pham Hoang Nam.

The problem of pirated movies

This is not the first time that Vietnamese producers and publishers have expressed frustration about the rampant illegal website situation.

In the past, movies such as: "The Godfather", "The Thousand Dollar Girl", "Sugar Daddy & Sugar Baby", "Sister Mother Learns to Love", "Fire Rose"... also fell into similar situations.

The movie "The Godfather" and many other Vietnamese movies are copied and illegally shown everywhere.

In 2021, the Department of Investigation Police on Crimes of Corruption, Economy , and Smuggling (PC03) - Ho Chi Minh City Police prosecuted the case of "Infringement of copyright and related rights" related to the website: www.phimmoi.net, which occurred in Ho Chi Minh City.

During the investigation, PC03 determined that since 2014, Nguyen Tuan Tu (residing in Lam Dong province), had a plan to build and develop a website to show free online movies on the internet.

At that time, the Cinema Department reported that there were more than 400 Vietnamese film websites openly showing tens of thousands of films on the internet while the copyrights of these works had not been purchased by the owners of these websites.

Since the end of June 2020, dozens of websites specializing in showing pirated movies have had their domain names blocked in Vietnam such as: phimmoi, dongphim, HDonline, Phimbathu...

This move shows that management agencies and network operators have begun to deal with even the smallest names in the market, with the determination to remove pirated movie websites that violate copyrights of TV program content. However, thoroughly handling pirated movie websites is not simple.

In fact, for every pirated movie website that “dies”, another website will immediately appear to replace it with a different shell (domain name). For example, after being blocked for a day, the pirated movie website Vkool has resumed operations under a new domain name, by changing the extension “.net” to “.tv”.

According to experts, if technical measures are taken to block domestic servers, copyright violators can move their servers abroad. In addition, they can rent unlimited cloud storage services from Facebook, Google, Fshare, Openload... at very cheap prices to store movies. For example, phimmoi once switched to using Facebook servers when Google took measures to block unlicensed movies on its platform.

To put an end to the rampant pirated movies, besides the close supervision of management agencies, network service providers and the media, the most important thing is still the habits of users. As long as there are still many people who want to watch pirated movies, pirated movie websites will still exist with many different "tricks".
