Phu Kieng Bridge connects Nha Trang city center with Vinh Ngoc commune with about 2,000 households located on the northern bank of Cai River. The current wooden bridge was invested by a local in 2001, and has a toll fee. Over time, the project has deteriorated, making many people feel unsafe, especially when traveling at night.
Not to mention when there are big floods, the bridge has to be dismantled, thousands of people in Vinh Ngoc commune have to take a detour of more than 30 minutes to get to the city center. In 2018, the wooden bridge broke, four people and three motorbikes fell into the river.

In September, the 330-meter-long Xom Bong bridge, spanning the Cai River, was opened to traffic, helping to reduce congestion on the coastal route into the central area of Nha Trang City.
