Students took off their warm coats throughout the program. Many people were even more upset when teachers sitting in the delegate seats wore warm coats, some even wore scarves, while students shivered from the cold.
The principal accepted responsibility for the negligence.
On December 17, Ms. T. (a parent of a child studying at Bui Thi Xuan Primary School) said that on the evening of December 16, the school principal informed the parents to explain the incident. The school accepted responsibility for the negligence, but did not send any apology to the parents and students.
Ms. Nguyen Tran Le Hong Trinh, the school principal, also confirmed that she took responsibility for the organization error with the parents. Ms. Trinh also said that due to the cold weather, the program was shortened from the planned 2 hours to about 1 hour.
Previously, in her explanation to the Department of Education and Training of Lien Chieu district, Ms. Trinh said that because in the program of the seminar "I love my homeland's sea and islands" there was a school-wide performance, students needed to wear uniforms to perform together, creating uniformity and solemnity.
The morning of the performance was cold, but the school yard was packed with more than 1,725 students, who were participating in activities so their body temperatures rose. Many students took off their jackets and held them in their hands because they couldn’t stand the heat.
Realizing that the air was not too cold, the school board asked the teachers to check each student carefully before deciding to let them take off their coats to perform in unison. The performance lasted 5-7 minutes.

Reader TH shared: "Maybe taking off warm clothes is to look nice and formal during the performance, but if teachers are tactful and care about students, they will take a few minutes after the performance to let the students put their warm clothes back on and continue the program.
