After the match, Cathy shared a status on social media with a photo of Ludwig, implying that she only learned about her ex-husband's tribute match from the press. Cathy said: "Someone took my hat and saw the news about his match in the newspaper. That's how my son found out what happened."

Cathy then went on to claim that she had no idea about Hummels' farewell match and only found out from reading the newspaper. She and Ludwig were on holiday at Lake Chiemsee in Bavaria, Germany.

Cathy criticized Hummels.

"To clarify things, we did not intentionally miss Mats Hummels' last match. We were not invited and knew nothing about it," Cathy wrote on her personal page.

Hummels ended his seven-year marriage to Cathy in 2022. The German midfielder is happy with his girlfriend Nicola Cavanis. Hummels' new lover also attended her boyfriend's testimonial match.

Hummels had an impressive career playing for Dortmund in two spells, helping the team win the Bundesliga twice. Hummels was also a member of the German team that won the 2014 World Cup.
