Musician Nguyen Ngoc Thien
The People's Committee of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City has just launched a song composition contest about District 1 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) with the theme District 1 - 50 years of steady progress.
The Art Council (jury) of the award includes: musician Tran Long An (Vice President of the Vietnam Musicians Association), musician Nguyen Ngoc Thien (Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association), musician Nguyen Quang Vinh (Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association), musician Nguyen Van Hien (Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association), musician Nguyen Duc Trung (Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association Performance Center).
Musician Nguyen Ngoc Thien said he and other musicians in the Art Council will try to find the best compositions that reflect the theme of the contest.
"This is a meaningful activity, not only to find good songs about District 1 but also to promote the songwriting movement on this special occasion" - musician Nguyen Ngoc Thien shared.
The judges will discuss specifically with each other based on the criteria set by the Organizing Committee. As for musician Nguyen Ngoc Thien, he wants the cheerleading songs to be simple, easy to understand, not too complicated in content or music theory, so that the masses can sing along.
Most members of the Art Council of the competition believe that the most important part of this competition is the promotion plan so that the works can be closer and live long in the hearts of music lovers. Of course, to be able to do this, the support of agencies and local leaders is extremely important.

The contents that the Organizing Committee oriented include: praising the leadership of the Party, praising the formation, construction and development process of the Party Committee, government and people of District 1; building the country in the economic - cultural - political - social fields of the people of District 1; praising the patriotic emulation movement, the movement of the whole people building a cultural life, typical examples in all fields of social life...
The contest is divided into two categories, for amateur authors and professional musicians. The organizers encourage students to participate in the amateur category.
The song must be closely related to the given theme, written specifically about District 1; new composition, not yet published in any media. Each author can enter multiple works.

The deadline for receiving entries is March 10. The jury will judge the awards from mid-March. The award ceremony is expected to take place in April 2024.
