Rapper Tien Dat opens up about his 30-year journey in the arts

(Dan Tri) - Rapper Tien Dat said that there was a time when he temporarily stopped his artistic activities to focus on business, but over the past 3 decades, the musical flame inside him has not changed.

Rapper Tien Dat started out as a dancer in the Hoang Thong Dance Group, then became successful with a series of hits in the 2000s.

Marking the milestone of 30 years of artistic activities, rapper Dinh Tien Dat (Mr. D) decided to recount his journey in an EP (extended disc) titled "I: 30 - 30 years I'm still here", which also marks the next stage of his journey after "Anh trai qua ngan cong thorn".

The project is a musical story of 6 songs, balancing nostalgic materials and modern arrangements, to pay tribute to family and audience, connecting memories of the past with contemporary music tastes.

Songs with diverse styles, performed with new arrangements but still retain the core of Tien Dat's spirit. For example, the song "Chi Pheo" with a strong street feel, released in 2006, is now revived in an explosive arrangement, combined with the Rock Monocycle group, scheduled to be released in mid-October.

In particular, the MV “Take That Hand Off” features the artists from “Anh trai vu ngan cong gai” such as Neko Le (director), Tien Luat, Rhymastic, Ha Le, Quoc Thien, BB Tran... showing the close friendship between the artists after the show.

In addition, the song "Proud to be a child" is also an emotional composition, dedicated by Tien Dat to express gratitude to his parents, who have silently sacrificed and accompanied him in his life and career.

The song has a gentle ballad melody, familiar lyrics, recalling childhood memories through the image of a father's hand, a mother's lullaby, or the hardships that parents have gone through. This is also the gift that he wants to give to his two children.

Tien Dat said that through this song, he wants to emphasize that family affection is the most valuable asset he has after 3 decades of pursuing art. The song will be released on Tien Dat's birthday (January 2026).

Dinh Tien Dat (Mr. Dee) is one of the pioneer rappers who brought rap from the underground to the public. He started his artistic career in 1995 as a dancer for Hoang Thong Dance Group and was a choreographer for many famous artists at that time.

After that, he collaborated with singer Thanh Thao to release many hits such as Night Without Stars; He and She; Ok! We Break Up... In 2003, Tien Dat officially went solo as a rapper.

In addition to his musical activities, Tien Dat also participated in many movies and entertainment programs. In 2016, he won the championship of the Amazing Race program.

In 2017, he temporarily stopped performing to focus on his business. In 2024, he accepted to participate in the program "Brother overcoming thousands of obstacles", taking on the role of leader of the Nursery with the team members to bring many impressive performances such as: The Earth Embraces the Sun, Autumn, Peach Blossom...
