Tourists harvest grapes at the vineyard in Con Tau village, Tan Van commune, Binh Gia district.

In late June 2024, we had the opportunity to visit Mr. Hoang Van Ba's vineyard in Khon Pat village, Mai Pha commune, Lang Son city. Early in the morning, many visitors came to the garden to visit, take pictures and cut the ripe bunches of grapes to bring home as gifts.

Mr. Hoang Van Ba shared: My family has been growing grapes for about 10 years, but mainly selling to customers who pre-order. About 5 years ago, my family started to combine tourism development by opening the door for people to visit, experience, take photos and learn from experiences, with a price of 30,000 VND/ticket. On average, each grape crop, my family welcomes from 800 to 1,000 visitors from inside and outside the province to visit, the busiest time is on weekends. This model brings the family a revenue of more than 400 million VND/year, creating jobs for 5 to 8 seasonal workers.

Not only in Lang Son city, the grape growing model combined with experiential tourism has now been replicated in some districts such as Binh Gia, Van Quan, Huu Lung, Bac Son. Through the synthesis of data from professional departments of districts and cities, up to now, the whole province has had 11 models like the above.

To attract visitors to experience, gardeners have invested in, renovated gardens, built landscapes... The average entrance fee at the gardens ranges from 20 to 30 thousand VND/ticket; the price of grapes ranges from 160,000 to 200,000 VND/kg. On average, each grape season, the gardens welcome 500 to 800 visitors, bringing in revenue from 100 to 150 million VND.

Mr. Hoang Van Tam, owner of the Con Tau village grape garden, Tan Van commune, Binh Gia district, said: In 2020, I invested in installing a drip irrigation system for my family's vineyard with 300 Black Summer grape trees and 100 Green Peony grape trees. Thanks to that, I saved 50% of water, electricity consumption and labor compared to before. Currently, my family's vineyard is growing very well, with an average of more than 800 kg of fruit per crop with a selling price of 140,000 to 200,000 VND/kg. From 2022 to now, when the grapes have fruit and gradually ripen, I started posting on social networks (Facebook, Zalo) to sell and have received support from customers inside and outside the district. To attract more customers, I have invested in additional signs, Google Maps location, notes, introductions about grape varieties, nutritional value and some regulations in the garden. Thanks to that, the number of customers coming to the vineyard increased significantly.

Mr. Do Minh Duc, Hoang Mai district, Hanoi city said: In mid-June 2024, I had the opportunity to visit Mr. Hoang Van Tam's Ha Den vineyard with my wife and daughter. I was quite surprised because I didn't think the grape growing model was also available in Binh Gia district. Seedless grapes are very sweet and fragrant. My family members, from the elderly to the children, all enjoyed visiting, taking souvenir photos and buying products here.

Ms. Hoang Thi Anh, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Gia district, said: Currently, the district has 5 grape growing models combined with experiential tourism. Identifying agricultural tourism as one of the advantages for developing tourism in the area, in the past time, we have advised the District People's Committee to continue exploiting new agricultural products to diversify tourism products, serving the needs of tourists.

It can be seen that developing the agricultural economy in an ecological direction, associated with experiential tourism, has been opening up a new direction, aiming to improve production efficiency, while creating new tourism products to attract tourists. Thereby, contributing to improving the lives of farmers, promoting sustainable agricultural and rural development.
