On July 17, a source from SIS Can Tho International General Hospital said that the hospital's doctors had just received and successfully treated a case of cerebral infarction in a young patient.

Previously, the patient was discovered by his family in a state of drowsiness and weakness on the right side of his body and was transferred to SIS Can Tho International General Hospital for emergency treatment. Cerebral angiography results showed that the patient had a blockage in the internal carotid artery and the left middle cerebral artery, leading to a stroke.

Notably, the patient had no clear medical history. However, according to his family, he had a habit of smoking since he was 17 years old and often stayed up until 1-2 am.

The team performed emergency intervention using mechanical thrombolysis, helping to completely reopen the blocked blood vessel area, limiting the spread of brain damage. Currently, the patient is being closely monitored in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Dr. To Van Tan, Deputy Head of the Department of Surgery, Anesthesia and Resuscitation, said that smoking, staying up late, prolonged stress, etc. are silent but extremely dangerous risk factors. They accelerate the aging process of blood vessels, leading to atherosclerosis, increasing the risk of stroke even in young people.

According to Dr. Tan, strokes in young people are on the rise, mostly due to unhealthy lifestyles. What is worrying is that many people are subjective and come to the hospital late, which can easily lead to serious consequences.

"Seemingly harmless habits are silently destroying our health. Stroke is no longer a disease of old age, but can happen at any time if we continue to ignore our bodies," Dr. Tan warned.
