Billiards: Identifying Tran Quyet Chien's strongest opponent at the Gwangju World Cup

Vietnam 3-cushion carom billiards participated in the World Cup in Gwangju (Korea) with a strong force. Among them, Tran Quyet Chien is still ranked in the number 1 seed group, will face extremely strong opponents.

The next World Cup Billiards stage in 2025 under the World Carom Billiards Federation (UMB) system will be held in Gwangju - Korea from November 3 to 9. Accordingly, Vietnamese billiards will have up to 19 players participating in the competition, including top names such as Tran Quyet Chien, Bao Phuong Vinh, Tran Thanh Luc, Chiem Hong Thai...

Similar to previous tournaments, Tran Quyet Chien and Tran Thanh Luc are both in the top 14 of the world rankings, so they are seeded and given a special entry from the final round (32 players). Tran Quyet Chien is in group C with Martin Horn (Germany) and Choi Wan-young (Korea). Meanwhile, Tran Thanh Luc is in group F with Tolgahan Kiraz (Turkey).

Tran Quyet Chien is still looking for his first World Cup billiards championship in 2025.

Notably, Martin Horn is the current champion of the most recent World Cup Billiards. The German player was crowned champion at the Antwerp World Cup Billiards held in Belgium on October 12.

In the final round of each World Cup leg, 32 players are divided equally into 8 groups. Players who are ranked as seed or have wildcard spots will appear in the group. The remaining names will be determined after the 4 qualifying rounds are finished.

The Vietnamese players who will be playing in the fourth qualifying round of the Gwangju World Cup are: Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu, Dao Van Ly, Chiem Hong Thai and Bao Phuong Vinh. Van Ly has already confirmed an opponent, in the same group G with the legendary Torbjorn Blomdahl (Sweden). Thanh Tu will now face Sergio Jimenez (Spain).
