Launching the electric Ford Bronco with up to 271 horsepower, from 1.7 billion VND

Ford has just launched the new Bronco New Energy in the Chinese market. Although the car looks quite similar to the Bronco Sport, there are still major differences.

Unlike the current US versions of the Ford Bronco, which don't have a true electrification option, the 2026 Ford Bronco New Energy in China is available with either an all-electric powertrain or a range-extender combination of a gasoline engine and an electric motor.

Specifically, the all-electric version has a capacity of 271 horsepower, while the range-extender version uses a 1.5L engine combined with an electric motor for a total capacity of 241 horsepower. Both versions use front-wheel drive - a big difference compared to the Bronco in the US, which always has a 4-wheel drive system.

The range extender is equipped with a 43.7 kWh battery, giving it a pure electric range of about 220 km, or up to 1,220 km when combined with a full tank of gas. Meanwhile, the fully electric version uses a much larger battery – 105.4 kWh, giving it a maximum range of 650 km on a single charge.

In terms of design, the Bronco New Energy is clearly influenced by the Bronco Sport, which is already available in China. The flat door handles and overall design might make some people mistake this for a mid-life upgrade. However, the measurements show that this is a completely different vehicle.

The wheelbase is up to 2,950 mm, equivalent to the 4-door Bronco in the US and significantly larger than the 2,670 mm of the Bronco Sport. The overall length reaches 5,025 mm, longer than both the Bronco (4,810 mm) and the Bronco Sport (4,400 mm). The width is also significantly expanded, surpassing both standard US Bronco versions (except the extended Bronco Wildtrak).

The weight of the car is also "huge" - the range-extender version weighs 2,510 kg, and the pure electric version weighs up to 2,630 kg - while the Bronco Raptor in the US weighs only 2,240 kg, and the lightest Bronco Sport is only about 1,590 kg.

According to images released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Bronco New Energy is also equipped with a Lidar sensor on the roof, a detail that has never appeared on any Ford model manufactured in the US.

This new 2026 Ford Bronco New Energy electric SUV is a collaboration between Ford and Jiangling Motors and is exclusively for the Chinese billion-people market.

The price of the 2026 Ford Bronco New Energy is expected to range from 300,000-400,000 yuan (equivalent to about 1.7-2.3 billion VND), closer to the price of the regular Bronco than the small Sport version.
