Sharing with VietNamNet, a representative of an Internet service provider (ISP) in Vietnam said that the error on the S1I branch cable connecting to Hong Kong, China of the AAG submarine cable has been fixed, restoring the transmission channel on this cable.

AAG is one of five international submarine cable lines that account for the majority of Internet connection capacity from Vietnam to international destinations, along with four other lines including SMW3, AAE-1, APG and IA (also known as Lien A).

With a length of 20,191km, the AAG submarine cable directly connects Southeast Asia with the United States. Put into operation since November 2009, the AAG cable passes through Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam (the cable branch into Vietnam is 314km long, landing point in Ba Ria - Vung Tau ), Brunei, Hong Kong (China), the Philippines and the United States.

In more than 13 years of being put into use, the AAG submarine cable has often encountered problems and required maintenance and repair. However, according to experts, AAG traffic is still used by many domestic network operators at a large rate. The reason is explained that, in terms of economics, AAG is still the cable line with the most reasonable price. Therefore, in the usage structure of network operators, AAG is still an important element, especially for large network operators with many mobile Internet users.

The most recent time, the AAG submarine cable had problems in February 2022 and June 2022 on the branch cables in both directions connecting to Hong Kong, China and Singapore.

With the S1I branch connecting Hong Kong and China of AAG restored, currently, only the cable branches connecting to Singapore of the AAG and APG submarine cables are still experiencing errors.

It is expected that the problems on the S1B, S1D and S1G branches connecting to Singapore of the AAG cable will also be resolved this May. According to the plan, the international partner will complete the repair of the errors on the APG submarine cable in June.

As reported by VietNamNet , as of early May, repairs to two international submarine optical cables, IA and SMW3, had been completed. Then, on May 20, the incident that occurred at the end of November 2022 on the S1H segment of the AAE-1 cable line was also resolved, completely restoring the transmission channel on the line.

According to the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Information and Communications , in the coming time, the Ministry of Information and Communications will urge and guide telecommunications enterprises to research and build 4-6 new submarine optical cable lines, in accordance with the draft "Information and communication infrastructure planning 2021 - 2030 to ensure meeting the demand until 2030". It is expected that this year and early 2024, enterprises will put into use 2 more submarine cable lines, ADC and SJC2, with landing in Binh Dinh.
