Viettel has operated 5 international submarine cable lines, accounting for 65% of Vietnam's total international connection capacity.
Statistics by Ookla, the unit behind the Speedtest tool, show that in August 2025, Vietnam's fixed internet network reached 261.8 Mbps, ranking 10th in the global rankings, far surpassing the 33rd ranking announced in March 2025. This result is higher than many countries such as Switzerland, Denmark, and China. In which, Viettel leads with a speed of 272.9 Mbps (higher than the 8th ranked country in the world , Iceland). Thus, Viettel's internet speed has increased strongly by 58% since the beginning of 2025, contributing greatly to the growth of Vietnam's internet ranking.
This result is also similar to the announcement of the iSpeed system - the Internet access quality measurement system developed by the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC). Accordingly, fixed Internet in Vietnam reached a speed of 271.2 Mbps in August 2025, of which Viettel reached the highest with 318.71 Mbps; VNPT (247.77 Mbps) andFPT (121.59 Mpbs).
Many reasons why Vietnamese internet is growing rapidly
According to experts, this growth comes from many factors, including businesses investing in additional submarine and land fiber optic cable infrastructure, and network operators proactively upgrading domestic connection infrastructure.
A representative of Viettel network - the unit with the highest speed in both domestic and international rankings shared that Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation has created a strong motivation for Viettel to deploy a series of modern solutions and technologies such as XGS-PON, popularizing Wifi 6, and moving towards deploying Wifi 7. In addition, Viettel also promotes upgrading submarine fiber optic infrastructure, deploying fiber optic infrastructure up to 500,000 km, covering 100% of villages, ready to provide high bandwidth packages from rural to urban areas, from individuals to corporate customers.

XGS-PON optical transmission technology has opened a new "data highway" with symmetrical speed of 10 Gbps, 8-10 times faster than previous GPON technology. This means that users can simultaneously watch 8K videos, play VR games, and operate smart homes. More importantly, XGS-PON allows more devices to access, reducing latency - a prerequisite for future applications such as large-scale IoT, smart cities, telemedicine, and digital education.
Currently, Viettel operates 5 large international submarine cable lines, accounting for 65% of Vietnam's total international connection capacity, helping data from our country go directly to major regional centers such as Singapore, Hong Kong (China), Japan, and further to Europe and Africa.
Furthermore, according to the national strategy to 2030, Vietnam will have at least 10 new cable lines, reaching a total of 15 lines. Of which, Viettel aims to participate in and exploit at least 5 of them, and in particular, will completely master at least one direct connection line between Vietnam and Singapore, expected to be operational in 2028.
At the same time, in April 2025, for the fifth consecutive time, Viettel increased bandwidth for customers, raising the minimum bandwidth from 150 Mbps to 300 Mbps, bringing high-speed and stable internet experience to customers. Viettel aims that by 2030, 100% of users will access the internet at speeds above 1Gbps.
Along with that, Viettel has proactively supported replacing old wifi devices with new dual-band devices using Wifi 6 technology, moving towards deploying Wifi 7 in 2026. The new technology supports a maximum speed of 10 Gbps, 3 times faster than WiFi 5. This technology improves coverage and the ability to simultaneously connect multiple devices, ensuring a smooth experience when watching 4K videos, playing online games or livestreaming. The automatic frequency selection mode helps optimize speed based on the user's location.
Thereby, Viettel not only affirms its No. 1 position in internet speed but also brings superior connection experience, meeting the increasing needs of users nationwide.
