The Women's Union of Chieng An Ward was established on the basis of merging the Women's Unions of Chieng Den, Chieng Xom communes and Chieng An Ward, with more than 3,100 members, operating in 27 sub-associations, groups and villages. Ms. Quang Thi Kim, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of the ward, said: The Union is maintaining the trust from the Social Policy Bank and the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development of nearly 27 billion VND for 597 members to borrow, through 18 savings and loan groups. From the loan capital, members focus on developing production and livestock farming towards commodities, increasing income.
With the support of the Women's Union of the ward to borrow capital from the Bank for Social Policies, the family of Ms. Luong Thi Vui, Group 5, invested in developing a model of raising commercial crickets and taking care of a coffee garden interspersed with plum trees. Ms. Vui shared: Currently, my family has 40 cages for raising commercial crickets, selling a batch every 60 days, about 8-10 kg/cage, traders come to buy at home, with a price of 100-120 thousand VND/kg; before selling, the crickets are fed sugarcane for 18-24 hours, ensuring the crickets are clean and delicious. Every year, my family supplies the market with 60-700 kg of crickets. The family breeds them themselves, the crickets rarely get sick, their main food is leafy vegetables, cassava available in the garden and they are only fed with rice bran and corn. In addition, the family also harvests more than 10 tons of coffee and plums. The total income after deducting expenses is more than 200 million VND/year.
As for the family of Ms. Quàng Thị Luân, Pang village, is a near-poor household, she herself is often sick, and her 2 children are in school. Ms. Luân confided: In early 2024, my family was able to borrow 100 million VND in preferential capital from the Social Policy Bank to plant 3,000 new coffee trees, buy fertilizer to take care of 5,000 m² of coffee trees planted in previous years, and build a barn to raise 7 goats. In August 2024, the family also received support from the City Women's Union (old) for 2 breeding goats. Currently, the coffee is growing well, the goats have bred and sold the offspring, bringing a stable income to the family.
Along with supporting members in economic development, the Women's Union of Chieng An Ward actively mobilizes branches and members to build models of "5 no, 3 clean", "Green house", "Clean house - Beautiful garden"; study, work creatively, build happy families; preserve and promote national cultural identity; maintain the Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law Club; maintain cleaning of village roads; manage well the roads that women manage themselves, install lighting bulbs, contribute to ensuring security and order; mobilize members to participate in planting flowers and trees, contributing to creating clean and beautiful landscapes in residential areas and neighborhood groups...
Ms. Quang Thi Kim added: Through the review, the ward still has 14 poor women's member households, 39 near-poor women's member households, of which 28 are female members headed by households. The association continues to coordinate with sectors to organize vocational training and career guidance activities for members and women; maintain savings models at branches and groups. Proactively exploit resources through programs and projects, support women in economic development, and sustainable poverty reduction.
The specific and practical support of the Women's Union of Chieng An Ward has helped members change their way of thinking and working, promoting creativity in production, business and economic development. Many members have escaped poverty, become rich legitimately, making an important contribution to poverty reduction in the locality.
