Many workers take advantage of the holidays to restore production and increase income.

During the holiday season, when many people spend time together and relax, many workers are still busy with work. From restoring crops, harvesting summer-autumn rice, to construction sites, shipyards or early-month sea trips, all are aimed at the same goal: taking advantage of favorable weather to restore production and increase income.

When the streets are bright with flags and flowers, and people happily join in the atmosphere of the September 2nd holiday, it is also the time when many workers, farmers, and fishermen choose to stick with their jobs. For them, holidays and normal days are the same, the only difference is that whenever the weather is favorable, they work hard to meet deadlines, earn extra income, and maintain their family's livelihood.

At construction sites, the sound of hammers and machines still resounds regularly. The long rainy and stormy days have caused many projects to stagnate, but now that the sun has returned, the construction teams are taking advantage of the opportunity to speed up.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ha - a construction contractor in Anh Son Dong commune shared: "From now until the end of the year, there are many housing projects that need to be completed. Especially during the rainy season, work is easily interrupted and progress is often delayed. Therefore, even though it is a holiday, the weather is clear, we have to work through the holiday to make up for the recent rainy and stormy period."

As for Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai - a construction worker, she shared: “For us, every day is the same. When it rains or storms, we take a day off, but when it is a holiday, we still go to work as usual. When working on a holiday, the contractor also compensates us, increasing the salary by 50,000 VND per job, making us more excited. The owner is considerate and often cooks lunch for the workers. We also feel warm-hearted.”

During the holidays, Mr. Tran Dinh Anh's shipyard in Quynh Mai ward is still bustling with the sounds of welding and hammering. Workers work through the holidays to repair boats in time for fishermen to set sail soon. Mr. Anh said: "We have a policy of doubling wages and giving extra compensation to workers during the holidays. Fishermen are anxious to have their boats completed quickly to make it to sea, and workers have extra income. Both sides are happy."

The hustle and bustle was even more evident at the fishing ports. After the ban on going to sea was lifted on August 31, from early morning on September 1, a series of fishing boats in Quynh Mai, Tan Mai, and Cua Lo wards were busy preparing fishing gear and loading ice onto the boats to set sail.

Fisherman Nguyen Van Nam - a boat owner in Cua Lo ward happily said: "During the holidays, the demand for seafood increases, and the prices are also better. We take advantage of short trips to sea, bringing along fresh shrimp and fish. In less than 12 hours, each crew member had 1.5 million VND in hand. Everyone is happy, it's like a small Tet holiday in the middle of the ocean."

Along with that, fish drying workshops and seafood grills are also working at full capacity. People are taking advantage of every hour to meet the consumption demand during the holiday. The images of batches of dried fish being dried in the sun, the red-hot charcoal grills grilling fish with fragrant aromas, create a vivid picture of labor during the days when the whole country is resting.

Farmers’ footsteps were still bustling in the fields during the holidays. After the storm, many vegetable fields in Quynh Mai ward and Quynh Anh commune were flooded and destroyed. However, the people did not give up. In the fields, groups of people were still diligently replanting, preparing the soil, and planting new crops.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet - a farmer in Quynh Mai ward shared: "After the storm, green vegetables are scarce and prices have increased. We have to take advantage of recovering areas with minor damage, and at the same time, replant the vegetable beds that were completely lost, so that we can soon have vegetables to supply the market. We can grow a little each day, both to have something to sell and to improve our income."

In the summer-autumn rice fields, where heavy rains had caused water levels to rise, people were busy draining water and replanting the broken rice. In the fields where the rice was 70-80% ripe, they took advantage of the sunny weather to harvest, avoiding risks if the storm continued. Sweat streamed down their sunburnt faces, but their smiles still shone with the belief that if there is work, there is hope.

In all construction sites, shipyards, ports, fields... working during the holidays is not only a way to make a living, but also a way for them to seize opportunities and maintain the rhythm of life. Those workers, farmers, and fishermen, although not having a full day off, still feel joy from completing their work, from extra pay, from early harvests, from bountiful fishing trips.
