Poverty reduction models in Mang Yang district have played an important role in helping people improve their lives and affirming the right direction in the locality's sustainable poverty reduction goal.
The goal of sustainable poverty reduction is a top priority in localities of Gia Lai province.
Specifically, in Mang Yang district, the locality has implemented many effective poverty reduction models combined with promoting local potential and strengths with support from national target programs, helping to diversify livelihoods and increase income for people.
"5+1" Model - An effective solution to help veteran members escape poverty
In Ayun commune, Mang Yang district, the Commune Veterans Association has successfully implemented the "5+1" model, meaning that 5 well-off and rich veterans help 1 poor veteran increase production and develop the economy . This model has brought about clear results, helping members in difficult circumstances to escape poverty and stabilize their lives.
Mr. Le Van Chin, Head of the Veterans Association of Village 2, Ayun Commune, Mang Yang District, said that the Association currently has 31 members, of which 25 members have a lot of experience in livestock breeding techniques and growing perennial crops such as pepper, coffee, etc.
Through these members, the Association has assigned to help and support 6 member households with difficult circumstances in terms of livestock and crop farming techniques to develop the economy effectively. In addition, the Association also uses a fund of about 200 million VND to support poor and near-poor households to borrow capital to expand production.
A typical case is that of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Bieu’s family (residing in Hamlet 2, Ayun Commune, Mang Yang District) who is still a poor household after 24 years of escaping poverty. Thanks to a 15 million VND interest-free loan from the Veterans Association, her family invested in buying a breeding cow and a flock of chickens. After only a short time of care, the family had another calf and the chickens grew well, bringing in a stable source of income.
Not stopping there, Ms. Bieu determined to borrow another 11 million VND with interest from the Veterans Association of Village 2 to invest in building a Dui farm. Currently, Ms. Bieu's family has additional income from selling Dui meat and breeding animals.
“My family is one of two ethnic minority households in the Veterans Association of Village 2. Previously, due to difficult economic conditions, my family did not have capital to develop the economy, leading to an unstable and prolonged difficult life. Since receiving loans and support from Veterans in the association, my family has gradually stabilized our lives," Ms. Nguyen Thi Bieu shared.
Mr. Le Doan Diep, Chairman of the Veterans Association of Ayun Commune, Mang Yang District, affirmed that the "5+1" model has brought about remarkable results, helping members in difficult circumstances to overcome poverty and stabilize their lives. In the coming time, the Veterans Association of the commune will replicate this model to help members' lives become more prosperous and comfortable, ensuring that no one is left behind.
Many efficient production models
Po Yau village, Lo Pang commune, Mang Yang district, which used to be a revolutionary base, currently has 130 households with more than 500 people, 100% of whom are Ba Na people who have settled there for a long time. After liberation, Po Yau village received many investment programs and policies from the State. Thanks to that, the local government has integrated and implemented many effective production models, helping people increase their income.
Mr. Teo, Party Cell Secretary and Head of Po Yau village, said that recently, authorities at all levels have supported villagers in many production and economic development models, typically projects on livestock farming, coffee growing, rice growing, etc.
Mr. Dinh Driu, a young man in Po Yau village, said that in 2019, he attended a rice cultivation training course. After completing the course, this young man boldly switched to growing two rice crops and converted nearly 1 hectare of cassava to growing coffee.
