Sharing with Dan Viet newspaper reporter, Dr. Tran Dinh Ly, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, said: "According to the plan, the school will hold the opening ceremony for the 2024-2025 school year on the morning of September 17. The opening ceremony is an important event, of special significance to the school, marking the beginning of a new school year with many good hopes.
However, in the context of storm No. 3 causing extremely heavy damage, with the spirit of mutual love and sharing, the school wishes to join with agencies, units and partners to support our beloved Northern compatriots with the most practical feelings and actions.

In that spirit, in the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 - 2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry would like to not accept congratulatory flowers and hope that the cost of the flowers will be transferred to the Northern People's Support Fund of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City to contribute a part of the funding for the people, teachers, students, etc. to overcome the damage caused by the storm.
In addition, at the Opening Ceremony, once again, the school will continue to launch and call for support and sharing for the Northern people to all delegates, guests, officials, employees and students as the core values that the school is aiming for.
According to Dr. Ly, this decision of the school received the response and support of everyone.
Not only did Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry not accept flowers to donate money to flood victims, it also cut the Festival part on the opening day. Specifically, the school planned to organize the Ceremony with a scale of about 500 people and the Festival part with about 5,000 new students and additional volunteers to organize group activities and exchange with new students. However, after the storm No. 3 occurred, the school postponed the organization of this Festival part.
At the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City National University, this year they also said they would not hold an opening ceremony but would use the funds to support people in flood-affected areas.
According to the school: "For the Opening Ceremony of the 2024-2025 school year, all the organization work for the program has been carefully prepared and almost completed. However, in recent days, storm No. 3 (also known as super typhoon Yagi ) and floods caused by storm circulation have caused serious damage to people and property in the northern provinces of our country. In this urgent situation, the School finds it necessary to share and support the community at this time.
Therefore, the School has decided to cancel the Opening Ceremony of the 2024-2025 school year on the morning of September 27 as scheduled. Activities to welcome new students within the framework of the Opening Ceremony such as: interactive space with businesses, rewards, scholarships, skills sharing activities for students... will still take place normally.
In particular, the total estimated budget for organizing the Opening Ceremony this school year is 100,000,000 VND (One hundred million VND). The School will transfer it to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to encourage and support people in the Northern provinces to overcome the consequences of natural disasters, according to the general implementation plan of Ho Chi Minh City National University.
In addition, the School has been calling on staff, employees and students to continue contributing to support the program.
Although we know this is always a special occasion in the hearts of every new student, the School believes that this year's Opening Ceremony is truly meaningful and the most important thing at this time is the tradition of solidarity and mutual love of the Humanists.
Many schools donate hundreds of billions of dong to flood-affected areas.

"Seeing those heartbreaking images, we could not stand aside. Immediately, the school decided to launch a widespread fundraising campaign to support lecturers, staff and students throughout the school. This is the sincere wish of the school community," Mr. Hai expressed.
At Hanoi National University, to share the difficulties with people in flood-affected areas, the school decided to stop the Mid-Autumn Festival program, and the organization's funds will be transferred to support flood victims.
