Thailand remains a popular destination for Russian tourists , but demand for travel in Vietnam has surged with a 140% increase in Russian visitors this summer.

According to a VNA reporter in Bangkok, this is what Mr. Artur Muradyan, Vice President of the Association of Russian Tour Operators (ATOR) and CEO of Space Travel (Russia), shared about this year's summer travel trends of Russian tourists.

Presenting at a press conference on the “le'TO 2025 Annual Tourism Awards” - a prestigious award recognizing excellence in the tourism industry organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Mr. Muradyan said that more than 6.4 million Russians are expected to travel abroad this summer, a significant increase compared to 5.15 million people in the same period last year.

This growth was driven by a number of factors including a stronger ruble and cheaper airfares to many destinations.

While long-time favorites such as Türkiye and the Russian Republic of Abkhazia remain at the top, some emerging destinations are picking up steam this summer, with demand for travel to Vietnam up 140% thanks to the launch of new direct and charter flights, according to Mr. Muradyan.

Other rising stars in international tourism include Malaysia, Morocco, South Korea, Japan and the Seychelles. In addition, transit routes have opened up access to previously less visited destinations such as Malaysia, the Philippines and parts of Indonesia outside Bali.

Mr. Alexander Musikhin, Vice President of ATOR and CEO of Intourist travel agency, emphasized that Vietnam is a top destination combining beaches and cultural excursions, noting the demand of Russian tourists to travel to Japan, South Korea and Iran.

According to Mr. Musikhin, this is part of a growing trend of Russian tourists wanting to explore unique and little-known destinations, and confirms that Russia's tourism geography is expanding rapidly.
