The author of the book is Dang Kim Tram, the younger sister of female doctor, martyr, and Hero of the People's Armed Forces Dang Thuy Tram. She has translated many English books, written for newspapers, and is the main person in charge of Dang Thuy Tram's posthumous works, compiled into books, along with many other related documents.
"Dang Thuy Tram and the Third Diary" recounts Dang Thuy Tram's childhood, adolescence and a part of her beautiful youth, along with memories with family and friends, in the heart of peaceful Hanoi , with her heart turned towards her beloved South which was still suffering from bombs and bullets.
An important part of the book is the unpublished posthumous work of female doctor Dang Thuy Tram, including "The Third Diary" and some letters with family and friends. In those diary pages, the image of a Dang Thuy Tram full of femininity, with youthful energy, with a heart filled with love for the country, family, relatives, friends and love between couples appears.
The pages show a romantic, delicate but also brave Dang Thuy Tram - a medical student who loves her family, has a desire to contribute, and is always concerned about the mission of saving people and her civic responsibility in the midst of war. The book also mentions her failed love affair with a Southern soldier - something that once aroused much curiosity, and is told in a sincere tone.
The latter part of the book recounts the journey of Dang Thuy Tram's two war diaries returning to where they belong after 35 years, thrilling and touching; stories after Dang Thuy Tram's Diary was published, such as the story of finding the first person from the "other side" who read Dang Thuy Tram's diary and prevented it from being burned, about the trip to the US to receive the two lost diaries, the story of the great mother of the great daughter...
"Dang Thuy Tram and the Third Diary" is a tribute to a person who, like many other Vietnamese people, sacrificed for the Fatherland, for peace , with the complete ideals and love of immortal youth.
In 2005, the first two diaries of martyr Dang Thuy Tram were returned from the US after 35 years of being lost, quickly becoming a publishing phenomenon with more than half a million copies printed in Vietnam, translated into 23 languages, touching the hearts of readers worldwide.
Over the past two decades, the story of Dang Thuy Tram has continued to spread, becoming a living symbol of patriotism, sacrifice, kindness and idealism of Vietnamese youth.
