The painful situation of 'cutting up' sidewalks to make shops and parking lots in Hanoi
The situation of encroachment on sidewalks for business, trading, parking lots, etc. is widespread in 3 wards (Hoan Kiem, Cua Nam, Ba Dinh) selected by Hanoi City to pilot the construction of a model of urban order and civilization.

The Steering Committee 197 of Hanoi has just selected 3 wards: Hoan Kiem, Cua Nam, Ba Dinh to pilot the construction of model wards in terms of urban order and civilization. The construction of model wards is a major policy, demonstrating the determination of Hanoi in the work of urban beautification.
According to the reporter of Tin Tuc and Dan Toc Newspaper, the situation of encroachment on sidewalks and roadsides to make shops and parking lots in Hoan Kiem, Cua Nam and Ba Dinh wards is happening widely.
Sidewalks of some streets such as Ly Thuong Kiet, Pham Su Manh... located in Cua Nam ward are encroached upon by shops.
Snail shop on Quan Thanh street (Ba Dinh ward) displays all kinds of things on the sidewalk.
Encroaching on the sidewalk, many shops on Pham Su Manh street also conveniently encroach on the road.
The situation of encroachment on railway safety corridors in "train street" in Hoan Kiem ward is still widespread.
For many years now, the functional forces of Hoan Kiem district (old) and the new Hoan Kiem ward have regularly taken action, but the situation of re-encroachment on railway corridors for business purposes is still very painful.
Parking lots that block sidewalks and obstruct people's access are also a painful problem in the three wards of Cua Nam, Hoan Kiem, and Ba Dinh.
Along Ly Thuong Kiet street, although there are many underground parking lots, cars and motorbikes still block people's sidewalks.
People are forced to walk in the middle of the street, when sidewalks and roadsides are turned into parking lots for cars and motorbikes.
The sidewalk in front of the gate of Viet Duc School on Ly Thuong Kiet Street has a sign saying "no parking in this area", but is still surrounded by vehicles.
Many sidewalks and roads in Hoan Kiem, Ba Dinh, and Cua Nam wards, no matter how large or wide, are still occupied by shops and parking lots, narrowing the space for pedestrians, who even have to walk on the road, causing traffic insecurity.
