On November 21, Vietnam Railways Corporation announced that it would continue to cancel many trains, including Thong Nhat trains and regional trains. For those trains that have been canceled or have had their schedules changed, all passengers who want to exchange or return their tickets will be supported according to regulations, with a total of 11,000 tickets returned.
Not only passenger transport, freight transport on the North-South route was also seriously affected. Specifically: 6 freight trains were forced to cancel their trips completely due to the inability to organize safe train operations; 27 freight trains had to stop and wait along the way, including 13 even-numbered trains and 14 odd-numbered trains.
According to preliminary statistics, the estimated damage caused by this flood is nearly 10 billion VND. Of which, the amount of refunds for 11,000 passengers is about 7.5 billion VND; the cost of serving passengers stuck on trains and at stations is nearly 400 million VND, the damage caused by the cancellation of freight trains is 1.6 billion VND.
Since November 17, due to flooding, landslides and potential safety risks, the railway industry has been forced to cancel 25 passenger trains. A series of trains have been stuck at stations along the route, causing more than 2,000 passengers to wait for many hours.
The Railway Transport Joint Stock Company (Vietnam Railway Corporation) has proactively provided free 5,200 main meals, 4,200 snacks and drinks to passengers on trains that are stopping at stations. In addition, the railway industry has also created conditions and guided passengers to return tickets for the remaining sections for passengers who got off the train at stations along the route due to long waiting times.
