Information from the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) said that on the afternoon of May 29, 6 working groups of the Market Management Department simultaneously conducted inspections at Saigon Square Trade Center (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).

According to authorities, as soon as the inspection team appeared, the security team's walkie-talkie system at Saigon Square Shopping Center was immediately activated, and an announcement was made via internal loudspeaker to warn merchants to close their shops, making it difficult to inspect and handle violations.

However, authorities have discovered thousands of counterfeit products of world- famous brands such as watches, handbags, wallets and eyeglasses.

At the business locations, the inspection teams initially recorded a series of products for sale bearing famous brands such as Rolex, Longines, Patek Philippe watches; handbags and wallets of LV, Gucci, Dior, YSL, Celine, Goyard, Chanel, Hermès...

Authorities said all of these products showed signs of counterfeiting genuine goods, seriously affecting the rights of consumers as well as the reputation of protected brands in Vietnam.

According to IPT Intellectual Property Consulting Company Limited - the representative unit for trademark protection for famous brands such as Rolex, BVLGARI, Chanel... most of the products that the inspection team is handling show signs of counterfeiting the trademarks protected by the company.

Specifically, the goods sold at some booths had packaging that did not meet the company’s standards, the stitching was sloppy, uneven, or even had excess thread; the logo or printed text on the product was blurred and lacked sharpness. Notably, these products were sold at prices much lower than genuine products.

Besides IPT Intellectual Property Consulting Co., Ltd., many law offices and law firms representing intellectual property for trademarks are also present at Saigon Square to identify signs of infringement of goods at business establishments.

According to Mr. Tran Viet Hung, Head of Market Management Department, this is one of the typical cases during the peak month implemented by the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development.

Inspection activities at Saigon Square will continue to be carried out by this agency in the coming time, because this is a central area, attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists when coming to Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Hung said that the current situation of lax management of the area not only leads to violations in the trading of goods but also damages the trust of consumers and tarnishes the image of Ho Chi Minh City. This also negatively impacts the business environment of legitimate enterprises.
