The journey of the reportage in Thoi Nay publication

NDĐT - In late December, the Thoi Nay publication of Nhan Dan Newspaper released the book "Reportage - Investigation - Selected notes on Thoi Nay Newspaper", volume 1 (2010 - 2014) and volume 2 (2015 - 2019).

The two books are a collection of articles, reports, notes, and investigations selected from more than 1,000 issues of Thoi Nay Newspaper from 2010 to present. The authors of the articles in the book are mostly reporters who have worked and are working at Thoi Nay Newspaper, along with more than 60 contributors from all over the country.

Comrade Bui Trung Chinh, Head of Thoi Nay Newspaper, said that the selected articles included in the book are the crystallization of the labor of Thoi Nay reporters and collaborators over the past 10 years. Many articles have won major and prestigious journalism awards.

The topics of the selected reportage works in the two volumes are also very rich, vivid, closely following the situation of the country and many hot issues in society. It can be seen in the book the famous, elaborate long-term investigative articles of Thoi Nay reporters such as the five-part series on illegal coal, the series "How did cement lose money?", the series on land "Why are people so good at making money?", the series on mining soil and rocks contaminated with chemicals, the series on sand bandits in Dong Nai River, the series on scandalous projects in Dong Nai, the series "The bitter taste of sugarcane price"...

Along with sharp, specific, and detailed investigative reports on hot issues in life, the two books also preserve elaborate, long-form notes, helping readers better understand things that seem very familiar to us every day. "And They Call It Happiness" by Luu Phuong Mai and Pham Hai Van is such a note.

Choosing the 185 km long Happiness Road connecting Ha Giang city to Dong Van - Meo Vac through many high mountains and deep ravines, a topic that seems to have been exploited by many people, but two young reporters of Thoi Nay have shown not only the labor of more than 2,000 people, but also the future fate of the youth volunteers who shed sweat and blood to draw a sharp road on the map as it is today.

The lives of those who care for poor patients are also one of the topics that have been exploited a lot, but with "The poor kitchen in the middle of the hospital yard" by author Mai Tam Hieu with the makeshift stoves in the yard of the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, it is also a story about the heart and deep sympathy of doctors towards the families of poor patients.

The most impressive impressions in the pages of the book are the reports about border guards, navy soldiers, about the lives of fishermen who stick to the sea, go out to sea, not only to make a living but also to become "living landmarks" marking the sovereignty of the Fatherland. The story about the landmarks in the northernmost part of the Fatherland (Ha Giang) in "The Northernmost Place" turns out to be a prism that reflects landmarks all over the country, landmarks located in the middle of the ocean or on the highest peak of the Truong Son range..., which the author Luu Phuong Mai described as "If we consider each landmark as a red dot on the map, then connecting those dots will form the S-shape of Vietnam".

The sweat and efforts of the authors throughout the 10-year journey of reporting, writing, recording, and investigating have been duly recognized. Each highly awarded article is respectfully recorded in two books. The series of articles “Garbage Mafia” by the investigative reporters won the B prize of the 2018 National Press Award, the B prize of the 2018 Spring Press Festival. “Illegal coal paradise” won the A prize of the 2013 National Press Award, “Southern Con Son Offshore” won the 2016 National Press Award, “Investment in agriculture” won the A prize of the 2015 National Press Award, “Roads from the people’s strength” won the B prize of the National Great Unity Press Award in 2015, “Aspirations for rivers and lakes” won the B prize of the 2017 Spring Press Festival, “Scandalous projects in Dong Nai” won the C prize of the 2017 National Press Award, the C prize of the 2017 Anti-corruption Press Award, “Getting rich on the “backs” of rice growers” won the B prize of the 2017 National Press Award, “Bringing agricultural products to the world” won the A prize of the 2018 National Award for Foreign Information, “Rejuvenating the cadre team” won the A prize of the 2018 National External Information Award, “Rejuvenating the cadre team”. “Ministry in the Capital” won the A prize of the National Golden Hammer and Sickle 2018, the C prize for Journalism on Party Building and the Political System of Hanoi 2018, “Developing the Marine Economy in the Mekong Delta” won the A prize for Journalism on the work of hunger eradication and poverty reduction of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs 2019...

It is difficult to summarize all the products and efforts of the writers at Thoi Nay in 10 years in just two books, but the selected works included here all represent the journalistic spirit of Thoi Nay: ready to venture into any place, no matter how difficult or arduous, not only to write, but also to convey life through one's own lens, through one's own discoveries and research to readers.

At the end of 2018, Thoi Nay also published two books of selected short stories in Thoi Nay newspaper, “Dreams on the Forests”, and selected essays in Thoi Nay newspaper, “Where We Passed, Who We Met”. Together with these two selected volumes of “Reportage - Investigation - Notes”, Thoi Nay’s literary and journalistic publications have become valuable cultural gifts for readers who love this newspaper.
