The increasing number of playgrounds appearing recently has made pickleball become popular and loved in Vietnam.
Although pickleball is a gentle sport suitable for all ages, recent cases of serious injuries or strokes while playing pickleball are ringing alarm bells for those who love this sport.

According to experts, to avoid unwanted situations, pickleball players need to equip themselves with knowledge to protect their bodies when competing, especially in hot weather.
1. Drink enough water
Water plays a very important role in any sport, especially on hot summer days. For pickleball, matches can last for a long time, at a high pace and continuously, causing players to focus on the game and forget to replenish water, which can lead to dangerous health problems.
To avoid dehydration when playing pickleball in hot weather, players should always bring a bottle of water to the court and sip regularly throughout the game, even if they do not feel thirsty. Energy drinks containing electrolytes are also a good choice to replace the salt lost through sweat.
2. Choose the right outfit
Choosing the right clothing not only helps pickleball players move easily but also avoids heatstroke due to excessively hot weather. Light-colored, breathable, sweat-wicking clothing will help keep the body cool and dry. Sunscreen, hats, and UV-blocking sunglasses are also important for outdoor games.
3. Play during cool times of the day
The best times to play pickleball in the summer are early in the morning or after sunset. Not only is it cooler, but the sun is also less intense, reducing the risk of heatstroke. Avoid playing during the hottest hours of the day, between 10am and 4pm.
4. Use the right equipment
Summer weather conditions have a big impact on outdoor pickleball courts. Use balls specifically designed for outdoor play, suitable for windy days. In addition, using a good grip that absorbs sweat well will not affect the quality of the match.

Pickleball courts in the late afternoon are usually 5-7 degrees warmer than average. Therefore, using standard shoes with thick soles will help players avoid injuries to the soles of their feet.
5. Pay attention to symptoms of heat-related illness
Players can recognize the signs of heat exhaustion or heatstroke by signs such as excessive sweating, dizziness, nausea, and headache.
If you notice any of these symptoms, it is important to stop playing immediately, seek shade, and rehydrate. If symptoms are severe, seek medical attention.
