The most modern highway in the country: Ha Long - Van Don - Mong Cai
In 2022, the Van Don – Mong Cai Expressway – a project implemented under the public-private partnership model, with a total investment of more than 9,100 billion VND, will be opened to traffic after just over 2 years of site clearance and construction. The project is constructed bySun Group Corporation.
This 80km long, 4-lane, 25.25m wide highway with modern lighting system has made Quang Ninh the province with the largest number of highway kilometers in the country with 176km.
Previously, in 2018, the 100km Ha Long - Van Don expressway worth more than VND 11,800 billion also had the support of Sun Group.
The Ha Long – Van Don – Mong Cai expressway connecting with the Hanoi – Hai Phong expressway has contributed to shortening the travel time from Hanoi to Mong Cai to just over 3 hours, thereby helping to remove traffic congestion and creating new development space for the key economic region in the North.
Van Don International Airport – The first private airport
Inaugurated in 2018, Van Don airport is a level 4E international airport with a capacity of 2.5 million passengers and 10,000 tons of cargo per year.
The airport has a total investment of 7,463 billion VND, completed after only 2 years of construction.
According to Mr. Romy Berntsen - representative of NACO airport design consulting company - this "can be considered the most modern airport in Vietnam". The airport runway is 3.6km long, designed with 2 layers of concrete, equipped with signal systems, automatic landing guidance from the US and Europe, iLane automatic return tray system from Germany, information infrastructure from the US or waiting room seats from Spain... The airport has 6 aircraft parking spots and 4 telescopic tubes and can accommodate the most modern aircraft in the world, including wide-body lines such as Boeing 787, Airbus A350.
In addition to many other awards, Van Don International Airport was honored by the World Travel Awards (WTA) as the “World's Leading Regional Airport” in 2020; “Asia's Leading Regional Airport” for 4 consecutive years, from 2020 to 2023.
Ha Long International Passenger Port – Specialized international passenger port
Ha Long International Passenger Port was also invested by Sun Group with a total investment of 1,032 billion VND, under construction for just over 1 year with many items: wharf, access bridge, international and domestic marina, passenger terminal, and official residence of functional agencies.
This is Vietnam's first specialized international cruise port that can accommodate ships with a capacity of up to 225,000 GRT, with a total capacity of up to 8,460 people, and can serve 2 ships at the same time.
All three projects mentioned above are considered as models of transport infrastructure not only in Quang Ninh but also in the whole country. Because they are all projects invested by the private sector, implemented in a lightning-fast time, they are modern, high-class projects, making important contributions to the breakthrough development of the local economy and society. They are also three typical examples of the strategy of "using public investment to lead private investment", with the output being projects implemented quickly - quality, optimizing resources.
Waiting for Gia Binh Airport and many breakthrough infrastructure projects
Sun Group continues to be the contractor for the Gia Binh airport project (Bac Ninh) invested by the Mobile Police Command (Ministry of Public Security). The project started construction in early December.
This is a specialized airport with an expected scale of 245 hectares, a runway length of 3,050m, and a total estimated investment of approximately 9,000 billion VND. In particular, after starting phase 1, Bac Ninh is focusing on developing a project to submit to the Government for approval of a supplementary plan to upgrade the airport into an airport, serving international diplomatic delegations, transporting passengers and goods, extending the runway from 3.05km to 4.5km to accommodate the world's largest aircraft.
Notably, Sun Group committed to building Gia Binh airport with “3 bests”: fastest construction time – 12 months; best quality; cheapest cost. 12 months is a record time for airport construction in Vietnam.
It can be seen that with the participation of potential private economic groups, important transport infrastructure projects are implemented quickly, with quality and at optimal cost. Socializing resources for transport infrastructure investment is also a trend of many countries to both take advantage of the experience and financial foundation of enterprises and ensure transparency and efficiency.
