Breakthrough in transport infrastructure development

In recent years, Hai Phong has affirmed its position as one of the leading localities in the country in developing transport infrastructure, creating a strong driving force to promote economic growth and regional connectivity.

From 2016 to present, Hai Phong has mobilized a total of nearly 50,000 billion VND to invest in developing transport infrastructure. Important road projects have been completed and put into operation such as: Hanoi - Hai Phong, Hai Phong - Ha Long Expressway. Hai Phong also focuses on investing in a series of roads and bridges connecting to neighboring provinces such as Quang Thanh Bridge, Dinh Bridge connecting to Hai Duong; Hoa River Bridge, Thai Binh Bridge, Nghin 2 Bridge connecting to Thai Binh; Rung Bridge, Lai Xuan Bridge connecting to Quang Ninh.

Many traffic works of special importance to socio-economic development have been strengthened by the City in 2024. These include the synchronous traffic system and technical infrastructure in the North Song Cam Urban Area; the Project to renovate and expand Provincial Road 352 connecting Thuy Nguyen District with Dong Trieu Town (Quang Ninh Province); the Project to build a grade-separated intersection at the intersection of Ton Duc Thang - Mang Nuoc - National Highway 5; Do Muoi Street extended to VSIP axis road and urban development in the vicinity; the road connecting Provincial Road 354 with National Highway 10; Nguyen Trai Bridge Project across the Cam River.

Each project not only addresses Hai Phong’s internal needs, but also expands inter-regional connectivity, forming new economic and transport corridors. Modern infrastructure has attracted tens of billions of USD in investment capital into industrial parks, logistics, trade and services, and at the same time turned Hai Phong into an important international trade gateway of Vietnam.

Creating economic growth corridors

Strong investment in transport infrastructure not only improves the urban appearance, but also shortens the time for transporting goods, saves logistics costs, promotes foreign investment attraction, especially in the industrial, logistics, seaport and service sectors. At the same time, it expands the inter-regional economic corridor of Hai Phong - Hanoi - Quang Ninh - Lao Cai and connects with China and ASEAN.

Recently, Hai Phong has consecutively inaugurated two key infrastructure projects, Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal (HHIT) and TIL Hai Phong International Terminal (HTIT). These two projects not only open up the possibility of receiving super-large ships, but also seamlessly connect with the multimodal transport network, from Tan Vu - Lach Huyen sea-crossing bridge to Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway and Cat Bi International Airport, forming a closed logistics chain, contributing to promoting export momentum, increasing competitiveness and creating a sustainable development future for Hai Phong's economy.

As the only region in Vietnam with comprehensive access to roads, railways, inland waterways, aviation and deep-sea shipping, Hai Phong is ready to enact long-term plans for sustainable growth. The city's maritime infrastructure is anchored by Lach Huyen Deep-Sea Port - playing an important role in regional and global trade. With 6 berths in operation (total capacity of more than 2.2 million TEU/year), the next berths from berths 7 to 12 of Lach Huyen Port are being actively implemented by the City to complete procedures, attract investors, Lach Huyen International Gateway Port will continue to be the leading important port in the North as well as the whole country.

Next, it is expected that by the end of 2025, the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong Railway Construction Investment Project will start construction. Meanwhile, the Mong Cai - Ha Long - Hai Phong Railway Project is urgently implementing planning and investment preparation steps. The implementation of electrified railway lines with "standard gauge" will be a great boost and opportunity, contributing to the socio-economic development of the City in particular and the Northern provinces in general. At the same time, the project will create a driving force for connection and promote international cooperation when imported and exported goods are transported by rail from Vietnam to China and Europe and vice versa more conveniently.

With a well-planned investment strategy and long-term vision, Hai Phong is making a real breakthrough in developing transport infrastructure. The city is not only consolidating its role as the economic center of the North, but is also striving to become an important link in the regional and global trade network.
