Great expectations for the new school year

Nearly 30 million students across the country attended the opening ceremony, officially entering the new school year 2025-2026.

Unlike previous school years, this year's opening ceremony took place in a special context, being held for the first time when the whole country completed the arrangement of administrative units and implemented the 2-level local government model; at the same time, associated with a historic event - the establishment of the Ministry of National Education, now the Ministry of Education and Training . The ceremony was solemnly organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, broadcast live and connected online to all educational and training institutions with the presence of Party and State leaders.

Currently, the country has 52,000 educational institutions with 1.7 million teachers, educational administrators and nearly 30 million students. These numbers not only reflect the scale of the national education system but also affirm the particularly important role of education and training in the development of the country. Each school, each classroom is a place to nurture knowledge, form personality, and cultivate ideals for the young generation - the future owners of the Fatherland.

In a letter to the education sector on the occasion of the opening of the 2025-2026 school year, President Luong Cuong emphasized: The 2025-2026 school year is the first school year taking place in a new context when the whole country has completed the arrangement of administrative units, implemented the two-level local government model, and is also the first school year implementing Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW dated August 22, 2025 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development. The President hopes that the education sector will focus on implementing the school year's theme: Discipline - Creativity - Breakthrough - Development; continue to aim for the goal of forming and comprehensively developing people in terms of knowledge, ethics, skills, courage and aspirations...

It can be seen that this school year, the education sector is facing many opportunities for outstanding development. Never before has education and training received as much attention and expectation from the Party and the State as it does today. This is also a historic moment, when many major, fundamental, long-term policies simultaneously come into life, creating a legal corridor and strong motivation for the sector to fundamentally and comprehensively innovate, meeting the requirements of national development in the new period.

Along with that, a national target program on education and training development is being built; four important laws on education (Law on Teachers, Law on Education, Law on Higher Education and Law on Vocational Education amended) have been and are expected to be issued this year. This will be a solid foundation for operating a modern, synchronous and effective education system. Digital transformation, application of artificial intelligence, STEM education... are also opening up opportunities to bring education into a stage of quality improvement and comprehensive innovation. In particular, in the 2025-2026 school year, the Ministry of Education and Training will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the 2018 General Education Program after an implementation cycle.

Therefore, the education and training sector as well as authorities at all levels need to transform resolutions and laws into specific goals and solutions so that education becomes a driving force for development, as Uncle Ho wished in his letter to students on the first day of school when our country had just gained independence; meeting the requirements of rapid and sustainable development of the country in the new era of development - the era of national growth.

The country is entering a new era and education is also facing new opportunities to continue to affirm its role as the leading national policy, deciding the future of the nation. On the 80-year journey of establishing the Ministry of National Education, the education sector has continuously innovated, developed, and made great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. When major policies are implemented, we have a solid basis to believe in the strong transformation of Vietnam's education.

The new school year begins, not only with the joy of the first day of school but also with the desire for change and faith in the future. With the joyful atmosphere of the first day of school, with the determination of the whole industry, and the joint efforts of the whole society, the 2025-2026 school year promises to be a school year that marks new steps forward, creating a solid foundation to successfully achieve the goal of bringing Vietnamese education to develop rapidly and sustainably, worthy of the expectations of the Party, the State and the people.
