The average lifespan of a pair of pickleball shoes can last from 1-2 years. However, some people, despite playing this sport for a long time, still make serious mistakes that reduce the lifespan of their shoes.

1. Wear pickleball shoes even when not playing

Wearing pickleball shoes all the time can cause the soles to lose traction and become damaged quickly. If you wear pickleball shoes to run errands, around the house, or on the street, you will likely be exposed to more rough surfaces that will wear out the soles faster than if you only keep them for playing on the court.

The best way to protect your pickleball shoes is to put them in a special bag and only use them when on the court.

2. Washing shoes incorrectly

While using, many pickleball players clean their shoes by using the washing machine. This accidentally causes the shoes to be damaged by the strong rotation of the washing machine and water that can deform, damage the toe, sole or affect the material of the shoe.

The best way to clean a pair of pickleball shoes is to use a soft brush and a low-detergent solution. In particular, do not use a dryer to dry the shoes quickly and do not use the shoes until they are completely dry.

3. Leaving pickleball shoes in extreme temperatures

Temperatures that are too hot or too cold are also direct causes that affect the quality of pickleball shoes. Many players have the habit of drying their shoes directly in the sun to avoid mold. However, this inadvertently damages the glue because hot temperatures can cause the glue to peel off, reducing the lifespan.

For shoes decorated with leather or synthetic materials, excessively cold temperatures can be harmful and cause the shoes to become stiff, prone to cracking or peeling, reducing the durability of the shoes.

Pickleball players should regularly monitor their shoes for signs of wear, such as reduced grip or torn spots, to determine when it's time to replace them.
