Implementing the slogan "The station is home, the border is homeland, the ethnic people are brothers and sisters", Border Guard officers and soldiers across the province not only support people in economic development but also regularly take care of people's health.
Colonel Luong Manh Vong, Deputy Political Commissar of the Provincial Border Guard Command, said: In recent years, to improve the effectiveness of health care for people in border areas, the Party Committee and the Provincial Border Guard Command have always paid attention to leading and directing specialized agencies and border posts to consider organizing medical examination and treatment for people as an important task in mass mobilization work, contributing to building a strong border area.
Accordingly, every year, the provincial Border Guard medical staff has proactively developed a detailed action plan, advised the Border Guard Command to coordinate with medical agencies and units inside and outside the province to implement the "military-civilian medical combination" program. At the same time, directed border guard stations to proactively coordinate with medical stations in border communes to periodically organize medical examinations and treatment, provide free medicine to people, combined with promoting health education and communication, disease prevention and control, and propaganda of the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and policies.
A typical example is at Ba Son Border Guard Station, which is responsible for managing over 41 km of border in Ba Son commune. Lieutenant Colonel Duong Van Hao, Party Secretary and Political Commissar of Ba Son Border Guard Station, said: Along with managing and protecting the border and landmarks, we always consider free medical examination, medicine and treatment as the responsibility and affection of border guards for the people. From the beginning of 2024 up to now, the station's medical staff has coordinated to organize health examinations and consultations for more than 360 people and provided free medicine worth over 25 million VND; participated in 8 vaccinations for over 1,800 children and women; coordinated 6 mobile propaganda sessions for nearly 250 listeners... Thereby, contributing to taking care of people's health and fostering military-civilian sentiment, creating a solid all-people border defense posture in the area.
It is known that the whole province currently has 7 military-civilian medical facilities under the responsibility of the locality. From 2024 to now, with specific tasks, the Border Guard military medical force has coordinated with units, organized health examinations, health consultations, and provided medicine for more than 4,700 people, worth over 500 million VND; participated in expanded vaccination in the locality for more than 4,000 children and women, combined with communication and education on health, environmental sanitation, and food safety for the people and officers and soldiers.
A notable feature is that the medical examination and treatment work of the border military medical staff is not only limited to Vietnam's territory but also extends to international friendly exchange activities. For example, in April 2025, the Vietnam Border Guard medical staff (mainly medical staff of the Lang Son Provincial Border Guard) coordinated with Chinese medical staff to organize medical examinations, consultations, and free medicine for more than 1,000 people, worth more than 450 million VND. This activity contributed to strengthening the solidarity and friendship between the people and armies of the two countries.
Not only that, the free medical examination and medicine distribution activities are also an opportunity for the Border Guard to grasp the local situation, people's aspirations and propagate to raise awareness of disease prevention for local people as well as the responsibility to protect border security and sovereignty.
Ms. Luong Thi Ly, Po Nhung village, Dong Dang commune said: My family lives far from the commune center, every time my stomach pain relapses, it is very difficult to go to the doctor. Thanks to the Bao Lam Border Guard Station regularly coming to the village to examine and provide free medicine, I and the villagers feel much more secure. Not only do they treat illnesses, they also guide us on how to maintain hygiene, prevent diseases and propagate about national border sovereignty, so we understand better our responsibility in protecting the border and landmarks. Thanks to that, the villagers not only have better health but also have more attachment and trust in the border guards.
It can be affirmed that in recent times, the medical examination and treatment work of the Border Guard for people in border areas has been widely and effectively deployed. These activities not only help people access medical services, but also consolidate and strengthen the solidarity between the army and people in the border areas.
Major Nguyen Van Khanh, Assistant Medical Officer of the Provincial Border Guard, said: In the coming time, we will continue to advise the Party Committee and the Provincial Border Guard Command to effectively implement the combined military-civilian medical program, linking medical examination and treatment with propaganda to raise awareness of self-health care for the people. In particular, the military medical staff of border posts will proactively coordinate closely with grassroots health care and local authorities to expand medical examinations and provide free medicine; participate in disease prevention and control right at the grassroots level...
