The liver performs many vital functions, including metabolizing nutrients, eliminating toxins, and supporting the immune system. However, liver cancer often progresses silently, with many cases only being detected at a late stage due to subtle initial symptoms.

According to doctors at Thanh Nhan Hospital (Hanoi), a healthy diet plays a crucial role in protecting the liver. People should limit unhealthy eating habits to reduce the risk of liver cancer.

In particular, people need to limit refined carbohydrates, fast food, fatty foods, and alcohol, as these are factors that easily increase fat accumulation in the liver, causing liver cell damage if prolonged.

Instead, doctors recommend adding whole grains like oats, brown rice, and barley to increase fiber intake, which helps stabilize blood sugar and control weight.

At the same time, you should increase the consumption of cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, kale, and cauliflower in your diet. This food group contains many beneficial natural compounds that support the liver's detoxification ability. Berries such as strawberries, blueberries, and cherries are also rich in antioxidants, helping to protect liver cells from the effects of free radicals.

According to experts, green tea is also a beneficial beverage if consumed in moderation. Catechins in green tea have antioxidant properties, help reduce inflammation, and improve fat metabolism in the liver. However, people should drink green tea in the morning or about 1-2 hours after a meal, avoiding drinking it too close to bedtime if they are sensitive to caffeine.

Additionally, supplementing with healthy Omega-3 fatty acids from fatty fish, flaxseed, or walnuts can help support liver function and reduce lipid disorders. Conversely, fried and greasy foods should be limited to avoid putting extra strain on the liver.

Doctors note that no single food can absolutely "prevent cancer." Preventing liver cancer requires a combination of hepatitis B vaccination, maintaining a healthy weight, regular exercise, and routine health checkups.
