The 5th stage of the Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup (HTV) – Ton Dong A 2025 cycling tournament ended with an eye-catching sprint at the finish line in Vinh City at noon on April 8. New Zealand racer Nick Kergozou (620 Chau Thoi Vinh Long ) stepped onto the top podium for the second time after a fierce competition with the top sprinters in Vietnam.
The high spirits of young rider Nguyen Anh Huy (Pelio Kenda Dong Nai ) in stage 4 made the race team enter stage 5 from Thanh Hoa to Vinh (139 km) with high spirits. Attacks continued from the beginning to the end of the route.
At two sprint points along the way, young racers stirred up the race. Pham Le Xuan Loc (Military Zone 7) finished first in sprint 1 at Ton Dong A Ha Hoa dealership (Nghi Son, Ha Tinh), while Ha Kieu Tan Dai (Binh Minh Binh Duong Plastic) won first place in sprint 2 at Ton Dong A Dai Nghia dealership (Dien Chau, Nghe An).
Despite many individual "breakaways", team 620 Chau Thoi Vinh Long and its ally 620 Nong Nghiep Vinh Long tightened the pace, proactively pulling the racing group back together to prepare for the decisive sprint - where they put all their trust in Nick Kergozou, the racer holding the prestigious Green Jersey.
Entering the final kilometers, strong teams such as Domesco Dong Thap Pharmacy, Military Region 7 and Loc Troi An Giang Group also quickly sent their main sprinters into combat positions, ready to challenge the "ruler" of the foreign sprinters.
Nick Kergozou made a lightning-fast sprint, surpassing everyone to win the second stage in a well-deserved manner right in Vinh City.
The battle at the finish line was intense, with Tran Tuan Kiet (Dopagan Dong Thap) opening fire first, setting off a dramatic chase. Nguyen Van Binh (HCMC New Group) "got into gear" at the right time, while Nguyen Tan Hoai (Loc Troi Group) went all out.
With overwhelming power, Nick Kergozou sprinted at lightning speed, surpassing everyone to win the stage for the second time, a well-deserved victory. With this result, he continued to hold on to the Green Jersey - the symbol of the "sprint king". Nguyen Van Binh finished second, while Nguyen Tan Hoai finished third.
Finishing with a large group right behind, the Yellow Jersey continued to belong to Loic Desriac (Domesco Pharmacy Dong Thap). Young racer Nguyen Anh Huy still holds both the White Jersey (best young athlete) and Orange Jersey (best performing Vietnamese athlete) titles.
On the same afternoon, the Organizing Committee and sponsor Ton Dong A and the participating forces came to offer incense at the Memorial of President Ho Chi Minh in Nam Dan (Nghe An), expressing the meaningful spirit of "remembering the source of water when drinking".
Tomorrow, April 9, the racers will enter stage 6 at Cua Lo with a team time trial, 24 km distance - promising to be a fierce tactical competition between strong teams.
