The undeniable popularity of the Nintendo Switch 2
Major retailers like Walmart, Best Buy, and Target announced that all their online pre-orders had sold out by early morning on April 24th. In addition, another large gaming chain, GameStop, also reported that they had sold out their online pre-orders within just a few hours. This rapid sell-out demonstrates the extremely high anticipation among gamers for Nintendo's new generation of gaming consoles.

Currently, consumers in the US have virtually no chance of pre-ordering the Switch 2 through regular online retail channels. There is still no information on whether Walmart, Target, Best Buy, or GameStop will open more pre-order opportunities in the future. GameStop offered a glimmer of hope by stating that they still have a limited number of units available for customers who pre-order directly at their stores.
Another option is to pre-order directly through Nintendo's website. However, the company has rather unusual conditions: users must have a Nintendo account with at least 50 hours of gameplay on the original Switch console (as of April 2nd) and a 12-month paid Switch Online membership. Even if eligible, users will only be placed on a waiting list. Nintendo will begin sending out the first pre-order invitations on May 8th and gradually expand thereafter.
Nintendo has also had to issue a warning about insufficient supply to meet demand. The company admitted that even those who received pre-order invitations may not receive their Switch 2 on the official release date (expected June 5th). A similar situation has been warned in the Japanese market, where Nintendo stated it was "unable to fulfill" all pre-orders.
The US pre-order launch on April 24th was delayed due to Nintendo's concerns about tariffs. Although the Switch 2's price remained at $449.99, Nintendo decided to increase the prices of several key accessories such as the Joy-Con controllers, Pro Controller, camera, and even new amiibo figures, adding to the overall cost for those wishing to own the console.
