Ukraine has activated its air defence alert as a series of explosions were reported in Kiev, as well as central and southern parts of the country.
The Interfax Ukraine news agency reported multiple explosions in the central provinces of Dnipro, Kremenchuk and Poltava, and the southern province of Mykolaiv early this morning. Social media accounts also reported explosions shaking the capital Kiev, while several flying objects were heading towards the west of the country.

Air defense alert has been activated across Ukraine at this time. The military command of the capital Kiev said that air defense units are engaged in combat. It is not clear what targets were attacked in the cities, as well as the extent of casualties and damage to infrastructure.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not commented on the information.
The Ukrainian Air Force said last week that 12 Russian suicide drones launched from Bryansk province targeted Kiev, eight of which were intercepted, marking the first attack on the capital in more than three weeks. Vinnytsia and Poltava provinces in central Ukraine also reported suicide drone attacks on some key infrastructure.
Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleschuk posted a photo of himself inspecting a Patriot long-range air defense missile launcher on April 21, saying that the system "has begun combat duty in Ukraine's defense network." Mr. Oleschuk also emphasized that the Ukrainian military is currently operating many Western air defense systems such as NASAMS, IRIS-T, Crotale and Gepard.

Russia began attacking Ukraine's energy and military infrastructure in October 2022, with the aim of weakening its fighting capacity and forcing Kiev to the negotiating table.
Ukraine has called the attacks on its infrastructure a “war crime,” accusing Russia of deliberately harming civilians and breaking its will. Moscow, meanwhile, says it is targeting Ukrainian infrastructure to disrupt the flow of weapons from the United States and its allies to Kiev.
