The major flood at the end of October swept away almost all of the access roads and the northern abutments of the Ba Ngan Bridge, completely paralyzing this vital transportation route.
The bridge was over 200 meters long and 3.5 meters wide, but when the northern abutment broke, all traffic connections were immediately blocked. The incident disrupted the lives of thousands of people, from students and factory workers to service workers. Many were forced to take longer detours, doubling or even tripling their travel time.
Mr. Le Thanh Quan, a resident of Ha Nhuan village (Nam Phuoc commune), shared: “For more than two weeks now, people from the former Duy Xuyen and Que Son areas have had to take a very long detour. Workers are late for work, and students have to wake up at dawn to go to school. We just hope for a temporary road for motorbikes to pass through to ease the hardship.”
Mr. Van Ba Quang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Phuoc commune, said: "Immediately after receiving the information, we reported it to higher authorities, erected barricades, posted warning signs, and temporarily stopped traffic to ensure safety. Because this is a vital route, the disruption has caused many difficulties for the lives of the people. Therefore, the solution of building a temporary bridge and then a new bridge is an extremely urgent need."

As soon as the floodwaters receded, the leaders of the Da Nang City People's Committee and relevant departments and agencies directly inspected and assessed the extent of the damage. Construction teams also urgently began implementing temporary solutions: reinforcing the collapsed bridge abutments, building temporary access roads, and opening safe routes for motorbikes, bicycles, and other rudimentary vehicles.

Simultaneously, specialized units also conducted surveys of water flow, collected geological samples, and assessed the soil erosion caused by the flood. This data is crucial for preparing the technical design documents for the new bridge project, a sturdy structure to replace the old, dilapidated bridge.
Mr. Cao Thanh Hai, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nam Phuoc commune, informed: “The emergency measure is to reinforce, repair, and build temporary access roads and bridge abutments to ensure smooth traffic for the people. In the long term, in early 2026, the government will focus resources on building a new Ba Ngan bridge, about 50-60 meters from the current location, with a total estimated investment of about 200 billion VND.”
Despite facing severe damage, people on both banks of the river still place their trust in the decisive and timely intervention of the authorities. The recovery efforts are proceeding urgently with the highest sense of responsibility. Each completed project not only contributes to restoring the vital transportation route but also ignites hope for people to quickly stabilize their lives after the flood season.
