At this time, people in Ea Wer commune (Buon Don district) are entering the chili harvest season with excitement due to the high price of chili.

This year, Ms. Ho Nhu Thuy's family (village 7, Ea Wer commune) has 5 sao of land to grow chili, with a yield of 15 tons. Currently, the family's chili garden is entering the ripening stage, so Ms. Thuy has to hire more workers to harvest on time. On average, Ms. Thuy's family harvests 2-3 quintals of chili every day.

Ms. Ho Nhu Thuy (Ea Wer commune, Buon Don district) harvests chili.

Previously, on this land, her family mainly grew vegetables, but the results were not high, so from 2009 until now, she has switched to growing chili. Every July, her family plants chili. After 3 months of planting, the chili plants begin to yield continuously for 7-8 months. If well cared for, each sao of chili can yield 2.5-3 tons. Ms. Thuy said that with a price of 20,000 VND/kg, chili farmers have made a profit. This year alone, chili prices have increased since the beginning of the season and are currently being purchased at 50,000-55,000 VND/kg, helping her family earn a large income. "With an average selling price of 50,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, each sao of chili my family earns about 130 million VND," Ms. Thuy calculated.

Similarly, the family of Ms. Doan Thi Bich Le (village 7, Ea Wer commune) is also taking advantage of picking chili peppers to sell during the high price period. This year, Ms. Le's family planted 5 sao of chili peppers, with an estimated yield of 13 tons. Currently, her family has harvested 10 tons and there are traders coming to the garden to buy. According to Ms. Le's calculations, with the current selling price of 50,000 VND/kg, this year's chili pepper season, her family will earn about 300 million VND in profit.

Nguyen Tien Lap, Chairman of the Ea Wer Commune Farmers' Association, said that the commune currently has 8 hectares of chili peppers for harvest. Currently, chili prices are increasing, so growers are very excited. However, most of the product's output depends on traders, and prices fluctuate; therefore, local authorities recommend that people who want to expand their planting area need to carefully study market demand. At the same time, they should cooperate with businesses to ensure that products have output and are purchased at stable prices.

Many farmers hire workers to harvest the chili peppers on time.

These days, farmers in Krong Bong district are also rushing to harvest chili. This year's crop, Mr. Luong Van Le's family (village 3, Khue Ngoc Dien commune) planted 2 sao of chili. Currently, his family is focusing on harvesting the first batch of chili. According to Mr. Le, this time his family harvested 2 tons of chili, selling it for 60,000 VND/kg. After deducting expenses, his family earned a profit of about 100 million VND. It is expected that with this area, he will harvest 2 more batches, with an output of about 5 tons. "Compared to last year, the current price of chili has increased more than 6 times. Hopefully from now until the end of the season, the price of chili will remain high so that farmers can make a profit, thereby having capital to invest in production for the next crop," Mr. Le shared.

According to traders, due to the strong increase in domestic consumption and export demand, the price of chili has been pushed up recently. Mr. Do Van Binh, the owner of a vegetable, fruit and root purchasing agency in Buon Ma Thuot City, said that since the beginning of the year, the price of chili has always remained high, averaging at 50,000 VND/kg. Currently, his facility purchases about 1 ton of fresh chili from Dak Lak and Dak Nong every day to supply to markets in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and provide businesses with frozen and dried chili for export to China, Korea, Cambodia, etc.

Mr. Binh also commented that chili prices will continue to increase in the next few months because the current supply is not enough to meet market demand.
