According to news from his family living in San Diego, California (USA), People's Artist Diep Lang (real name Duong Cong Thuan, born March 4, 1941) passed away on March 11 due to heart disease, at the age of 83. His passing left many sorrows for his family and fellow artists. Not long before, he had Parkinson's disease, which caused his hands and feet to tremble, but his mind was clear.

He was born and raised in Binh Tien village, Chau Thanh district, Sa Dec province, now Dong Thap province. Following the art of Southern amateur music since the age of 8, People's Artist Diep Lang followed his father, musician Ba Diep, to join the Tam Phung reformed opera troupe.

At the age of 12, Diep Lang stepped onto the stage in the play "Lap song Gianh" of the Kim Thoa Cai Luong Troupe, then the Viet Hung - Minh Chi troupe, then the Phung Hao - Ba Van troupe..., but those were only supporting roles, until the playwright and producer Nguyen Huynh (also his father's friend) brought him to the Hoai Dung - Hoai My troupe ( Long An ), he was assigned the main role: the prince in the play "Chiec ring kim cuong". In 1962, he joined the Kim Chuong troupe, this was an apprenticeship process and he quickly gained trust because of his intelligence and quick wit.

People's Artist Diep Lang was awarded the Thanh Tam Gold Medal in 1963.

He has had many successful roles in his artistic career such as: Sergeant Tam (play "Finding Life Again"), Council Du (play "Hau River's Voice"), Council Thang (play "Miss Luu's Life"), Le Quy (play "Ngoc Han's Confessions")... He also participated in many plays, acted in films and worked as a director, manager, and coached many young actors on the rehearsal floor. He participated in the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association for more than 20 years as a member, in charge of many professional activities.

Artist Diep Lang was assigned by playwright Thu An to play the role of a 70-year-old man (the father in the play "The Half-Brother"). It was a role that marked his artistic career with the Thanh Tam Award in 1963.

During this period, he acted in a number of plays and was very successful, such as: "Sergeant Tam" in "Finding Life Again", "Council Du" in "Tieng Ho Song Hau", "Council Thang" in "Doi Co Luu", "Le Quy" in "Tam Su Ngoc Han", "Le Xuan Giac" in "Tieng Song Rach Gam", "Ong Noi" in "Cay Lo Ban", "Mr. Hai" in "Dan Ca Tri Ky".

After 1975, he joined the Saigon II Collective Opera Troupe. His troupe toured everywhere, performing in the Southwestern border areas,... He was elected as the Head of Troupe 284. He participated in both management and artistic work.

He was awarded the title of People's Artist in 2003.

In his artistic career, he has made contributions not only as an actor but also as a director, manager and veteran instructor. He was awarded the Thanh Tam Gold Medal in 1963; the Thanh Tam Award Certificate of Honor in 1964; the Meritorious Artist Title in 1993; and the Medal for the Stage Career in 2000.

In addition, he was also selected to perform abroad such as: in 1984 in Western European countries, in 1986 in Cambodia, in 1997 in France and in 1998 in Australia.
