The character Hoang, played by artist Hoang Thanh Huan (middle), is full of emotion.
On the morning of July 2 in Hanoi , within the framework of the 5th National Professional Theater Festival on "The Image of the People's Public Security Soldier" - 2025, the Army Cheo Theater brought a special mark with the play "Peaceful Sky" (script: Min Huong, director: People's Artist Tu Long).
Elaborately staged with the participation of nearly 100 young and talented artists, actors and musicians, this is a special work of art with profound propaganda and education , touching the depths of the audience's soul with the sophisticated, poetic and contemporary Cheo language.
The play "Peaceful Sky" is staged very realistically and full of emotions.
The play tells the story of Hoang, a young police officer who volunteers to take up duty in a border commune, where petty civil cases such as chicken theft, wife beating, or drunkenness seem to be everyday tasks.
However, from that seemingly "boring" place, Hoang began his journey to touch the hearts of the villagers, becoming a cadre loved and trusted by the people.
Hoang is a model of a quiet, patient police officer who builds trust from the simplest things. And when faced with a major drug case, the real challenge comes – not just in terms of professionalism, but also in the internal dialogue between emotion and reason, between humanity and responsibility.
Many emotional performances in the play "Peaceful Sky"
Drama meets soft material
People's Artist Tu Long is an artist who lives for his deep passion for Cheo. He won the Mai Vang Award of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper in 2024.
He told the story of the peaceful sky in a form that was not too noisy or intense, but still brought the audience to the heart-wrenching moments - when Hoang realized that the wanted person was the father of the two children he had saved.
When the arrest warrant was issued, Hoang was forced to follow the man – not only because of duty, but also because of an undying belief in the remaining goodness in the man who once felt warm for his child.
Beautiful waterfall invested in the play "Peaceful Sky"
The climax is pushed when both fall into the waterfall - a symbol of the boundary between life and death, good and evil. More surprisingly, instead of running away, the one being chased saves Hoang from death.
One act of light shining in the darkness is enough to transform all prejudices about child abductors who sell children abroad and participate in drug rings.
The play's expensive details not only make the audience speechless, but also evoke a profound thought: justice is not only punishment, but also the ability to transform, the ability to awaken the goodness in each person.
Rowing is not old but very modern.
What makes "Peaceful Sky" so special in the hearts of the audience is the smooth blend of traditional Cheo and modern emotions. The sweet, soulful Cheo melodies, still retaining the national soul, are set in the majestic mountains and forests. The simple yet realistic characters, from the quarreling Mong couple, Tet and Lu, to the young teacher with a deep love for the village, have created a stage space that is both poetic and intimate.
The image of the people's police officer was portrayed by People's Artist Tu Long in a simple and realistic way in the play "Peaceful Sky".
In particular, the waterfall scene was recreated on stage like a vivid picture. Meanwhile, the music performed by a professional orchestra enhanced the emotions of the play.
And then, from those seemingly rustic lyrics, a philosophy of life was lit up: peace is not only the absence of violence, but also the peace of mind in the hearts of the people - the confidence in the people who live and act for the community every day.
In the context of traditional theater struggling to find ways to reach young audiences, "Peaceful Sky" appears as a typical example of how to innovate Cheo without losing the identity of People's Artist Tu Long.
People's Artist Tu Long follows his brainchild - the cheo play "Peaceful Sky"
Hoang's achievements are not measured by achievements or awards. Rather, it is the maturity of his soul, from a warrior who longed for achievements to a person who understood the value of listening, of trust, and of protecting not only the territory but also the peace in each heart.
"Peaceful Sky" requires viewers to immerse themselves and reflect. But that very depth is the power to touch the depth of emotions, which Cheo can always do when supported by the hands of directors who understand Cheo and love Cheo like People's Artist Tu Long and talented artists of the Army Cheo Theater.
