Accordingly, the Organizing Committee will select 3 durian queens including Ri6, Dona, and Durian Co to auction, with the aim of honoring farmers who have grown high-quality durian. These are the 3 most beautiful and highest quality durians selected from 32 durian gardens in Krong Pac district, Dak Lak province in the 2nd Krong Pac Durian Festival in 2024 to auction. The auction winner will receive a fresh durian queen to enjoy and a 24k gold-plated durian for display.
The auction was divided into 3 auctions for 3 durian queens, the starting price of the “durian queens” was set at 60-70 million VND. The auction was very exciting and tense, with representatives of units and businesses competing fiercely to own the durian queen.
The durian queens were successfully auctioned at prices ranging from 350 million VND to 1.4 billion VND. Specifically: Durian queen Co closed at 350 million VND; Durian queen Dona closed at 900 million VND; Durian queen Ri6 closed at the highest price of 1.4 billion VND, won by Chanh Thu Fruit Import -Export Corporation from Ben Tre province and its accompanying units.
According to the festival organizers, the Ancient durian was brought to Vietnam by the French along with coffee trees during colonial exploitation, the Dona durian originated from Thailand, only Ri6 is a durian variety researched and created by the Vietnamese. This is a pure Vietnamese durian variety that brings high economic value.
The successful bidders were awarded the “Durian Queen” fresh fruit and golden durian by the Organizing Committee, a very meaningful and unique symbol of the Festival.
With the auction winning money, the Organizing Committee will carry out social security work; invest in knowledge of planting and caring for durian trees for farmers; organize training courses to transfer science and technology, raise awareness and thinking of Farmers' Association members on safe and sustainable agricultural development in general and sustainable development of the Krong Pac durian ecosystem in particular.
