Thai ethnic female student becomes valedictorian of block C nationwide, dreams of becoming a teacher

Luong Thi Hoai Thu, resident of Khun village, Chau Hoi commune, Quy Chau district (former student of class 12C2, Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School No. 2), is one of 19 candidates with the highest C block exam scores nationwide.

In the 2024 high school graduation exam, Hoai Thu scored 10 points in history, 10 points in geography and 9.75 points in literature. Thu's total score in the graduation exam subjects was 54.4.

"After seeing my scores, I was quite surprised. I didn't think I would be valedictorian. However, I could guess part of my score," said Hoai Thu.

Talking about the secret to studying, Hoai Thu shared: "In addition to trying and making every effort, self-study is the most important thing. However, to self-study effectively, you need to have high discipline, set a schedule, specific goals and complete them well within a certain time. In addition to studying with teachers in class, I learn knowledge that I don't have from my classmates."

Hoai Thu said the reason she chose block C was because she liked geography. Thu's dream is to become a teacher.

Ms. Le Thi Vinh, homeroom teacher of class 12C2, Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School No. 2, commented: "Thu is a gentle, careful and inquisitive student. She takes notes very diligently and is very diligent in her studies. As a poor student who overcame difficulties, she has a sense of striving in her studies. For 3 consecutive years, she has been an excellent student in all aspects."

Ms. Vinh added that Hoai Thu has difficult circumstances, is the only child in a farming family.

"The entrance score for grade 10 was low, so this result is the result of Thu's tireless efforts and that of her teachers. For boarding students, teachers are parents, friends are siblings," Ms. Vinh shared.

Born and raised in a Thai ethnic family in the mountainous district of Quy Chau, with difficult family conditions, Hoai Thu was fortunate to be admitted to Nghe An Ethnic Boarding High School No. 2, reducing the burden on her parents. Overcoming her circumstances, Thu achieved many academic achievements. In the 2023-2024 school year, Thu excelled in winning the excellent student award in Nghe An province in geography.

"With her efforts in studying, Thu has become the national valedictorian of Block C, which is completely deserved. I hope that in the new environment, she will be more determined to become a useful person for society in the future, helping children in remote villages to become good people," Ms. Vinh added.

Nghe An's average high school graduation exam score in 2024 is 6,959, ranking 12th nationwide, up 10 places compared to 2023.
