Vietnam and Thailand have close diplomatic relations, being members of ASEAN and other sub-regional organizations in the region. The two countries are looking forward to celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026.

The Vietnam-Thailand strategic partnership is growing closer and more trustworthy, bringing benefits to the people of both countries and actively contributing to a common future of peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development in and outside the region.

Thailand is an important partner of Vietnam in the region, and is Vietnam's leading trade and investment partner in ASEAN.

In economics, trade and investment, the two sides strive to soon reach the target of 25 billion USD in bilateral trade turnover by facilitating trade in goods, expanding access to each country's market, and limiting the application of trade defense measures against each other's goods; and enhancing cooperation in new areas such as digital economy, e-commerce and green energy.

Leading Thai investors have successfully established a presence in most provinces and cities across Vietnam. Cooperation in culture, tourism, education, training and people-to-people exchanges has been increasingly developed, enhancing mutual understanding between the people of the two countries.

Defense and security are important pillars of cooperation. Both countries have potential and strengths in the tourism sector. Vietnam and Thailand are also considering the possibility of effectively implementing tourism connectivity initiatives within the ASEAN region to attract tourists from outside the region, including Thailand’s “Six Countries – One Destination” initiative.
