On the afternoon of October 17, at the Party Central Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received the British Ambassador to Vietnam, Iain Frew.
During the meeting, General Secretary To Lam expressed his pleasure at the positive developments in bilateral relations in recent times; affirmed that bilateral relations have developed substantively and effectively in all fields, commensurate with the level of the Vietnam-UK Strategic Partnership; and highly appreciated the ambassador's role in making important contributions to the achievements of bilateral cooperation.

Expressing satisfaction with the positive results of cooperation between the two countries, General Secretary To Lam assessed that the relationship between the two countries still has great potential for development, especially in the fields of defense and security, finance and currency, education and training, science and technology, labor, energy transition, climate change response, and particularly culture, sports and people-to-people exchanges, which have paved the way for cooperation in other fields.
General Secretary To Lam affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State always attach great importance to and pay special attention to further strengthening and bringing the Vietnam-UK Strategic Partnership to a new stage of development, meeting the expectations of the people of both countries, and contributing to peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
Both sides also emphasized the importance of the economic, trade, and investment cooperation pillar. Currently, the UK is an important trading partner of Vietnam in Europe and ranks 15th out of 152 countries and territories investing in Vietnam. Vietnam is the UK's second largest trading partner in ASEAN.
British Ambassador Iain Frew thanked General Secretary To Lam for taking the time to receive him; expressed his pleasure at the positive development of bilateral relations, especially in the context of the two countries celebrating the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership; affirmed that the UK values the development of the Strategic Partnership with Vietnam, considering Vietnam one of the UK's most important partners in the region. Ambassador Iain Frew expressed his confidence that high-level exchanges between the two countries in the coming time will create strong momentum, bringing bilateral cooperation to a new level, especially in the fields of defense and security, science and technology, innovation, development of an international financial center, green growth, sustainable development, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
Both sides affirmed their commitment to continue close coordination in bilateral cooperation and in multilateral forums, particularly at the United Nations; jointly promoting peace, stability, security, and cooperation in the region; and deepening the strategic partnership to be more effective and in line with the interests of both countries.
