This morning, Ho Chi Minh City experienced weak sunshine, but the atmosphere was covered by a thick layer of fog, creating a gloomy, almost rainy feeling. Some buildings were completely obscured by the thick fog, severely limiting visibility.
Many people have expressed concern about whether this is a sign of the air pollution that often occurs at the end of the year.
Explaining this phenomenon, Mr. Le Dinh Quyet - Head of the Forecasting Department of the Southern Vietnam Meteorological and Hydrological Station - said that the foggy weather is due to a low-pressure trough currently passing through Southern Vietnam. This trough causes cloudy skies, weak sunshine, and high humidity.
In addition, the cold air also spread to the South, causing a layer of fog to cover the air, resulting in overcast skies.
In addition, some experts also warn that the increased traffic, construction, and repair activities at the end of the year typically release a certain amount of dust into the atmosphere. Therefore, people need to cover up and wear masks when going out, especially those with respiratory sensitivities.
Towards the end of the year, the weather often experiences significant temperature differences between day and night. Precautions should be taken against heat shock and illnesses during this transitional period.
Regarding the weather in Ho Chi Minh City today, the lowest temperature will be 23-25 degrees Celsius, and the highest will be 31-33 degrees Celsius. The weather will be cloudy with sunny periods during the day and no rain at night. Northeast winds will be at level 2-3.
