Early morning of October 18, Chairman of the Hungarian National Assembly Kover Laszlo arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, beginning an official visit to Vietnam from October 18-22, at the invitation of Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man.
Welcoming the delegation at Tan Son Nhat International Airport were Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Tran Van Tuan; Member and full-time National Assembly delegate at the National Assembly's Committee for National Defense, Security and Foreign Affairs Thai Quynh Mai Dung; and representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs.
On the Hungarian side, there were Hungarian Ambassador to Vietnam Baloghdi Tibor; Hungarian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Lehocz Gabor.
Accompanying the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament Kover Laszlo on his official visit to Vietnam were Mr. Baloghdi Tibor, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to Vietnam; Mr. Sárdi Péter, Foreign Policy Advisor to the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament; Mr. Kovács Krisztián, Director of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Hungarian Parliament Office; Mr. Szilágyi Zoltán, Director of the Press Department of the Hungarian Parliament; Mr. Tóbiás Gábor, Deputy Ambassador of Hungary to Vietnam.
Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament Kover Laszlo was born on December 29, 1959, in Pápa, Hungary. He holds a Master's degree in Law and Political Science from the Hungarian State University (ELTE).
Mr. Kover Laszlo has held the following positions: founder of the FIDESZ Party (now the ruling party) (1988); Vice President of the FIDESZ Party (1993); President of the FIDESZ Party (2000-2001); Chairman of the National Security Committee of the National Assembly (2002-2006).
Since 2010, Mr. Kover Laszlo has been the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament (re-elected in 2014, 2018 and 2022).
Hungarian National Assembly Speaker Kover Laszlo has a lot of affection for Vietnam, having visited Vietnam in 2015 as National Assembly Speaker.
This official visit to Vietnam by Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament Kover Laszlo takes place in the context of the two countries celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2025 (February 3, 1950 - February 3, 2025) and follows immediately after the official visit to Vietnam by Hungarian President Sulyok Tamas and his wife at the end of May 2025.
Therefore, the visit not only demonstrates mutual respect but also affirms the determination of the two countries' senior leaders to continue to deepen the Vietnam-Hungary Comprehensive Partnership, bringing the bilateral relationship into increasingly deeper and more effective levels.
According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Hungary Bui Le Thai, the regular exchange of delegations, including many high-level delegations and especially the two visits to Vietnam by both the President and the Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly in the same year 2025, demonstrates Hungary's special regard for its relations with Vietnam, and reflects the high level of political trust between the two countries' senior leaders.
This is the clearest evidence showing that the traditional friendship and comprehensive partnership between the two countries is entering a new, more substantial and effective stage of development./.
